...and another interesting thought to further confuse everyone...

Here in the states, we Americans have this thing for believing anyone from Jamaica is all about reggae and smoking ganja and should be familiar with it and all its glory.

Interestingly enough, a Jamaican friend of mine (from Jamaica) once told me the general consensus over there regarding Americans is that we all smoke crack and snort cocaine while listening to rock n roll. :D


...so back to rice/jdm/fob/whatnot....

There are a good handful of reputable companies that make aero parts for the RX-8. The majority of those companies are based in Japan. To the majority of us who rarely get to see those types of products here, that stuff is considered "ricey".
Open up any Japanese performance car magazine (autofashion, carboy, option, etc...) and you will see loads of advertisements for tuning / accessory shops carrying outrageous-looking body kits and cf f1-style spoilers.
It's not at all uncommon for used car lots in Japan to purposefully upgrade stock trade-in vehicles with racing seats, cheap spoilers, and graphics so the cars will catch the attention of passersby.
In other words, I think that kind of "ricey" stuff is perfectly "normal" out there because it's "common".

Of course, I don't have any first hand testaments of actual Japanese people in Japan in regards to this, so what do I know..
