Damn, my first car was a ford tempo
Welcome to the addiction.
"Slow is smooth, smooth is fast", I love that quote, it really is true across many disciplines especially driving.
As someone else said, don't try to impress people or be bothered by idiots that will try and get you to race on the streets, etc. Most 8 owners seems to be more mature than that and from what I've gathered you are too. Congrats!
P.S. I'd say to springs and sways first on your mod list, and after you've gotten comfortable with it get an AFE shifter.

even though i can afford it, i would never buy my future kid a brand new car; most especially an RX-8.
they have to earn it. and when i say earn it, earn a new car on your own. all they'll get from me is a used miata, civic, or corolla. you want a tuner car like daddy? well, good luck because you're not going to get it from me.
this way makes them appreciate and fuel the fire within them that nothing in life is easily given and that they have to work for it, regardless of them saying "but i know and understand this."
either way, good for you on getting the car. you'll learn a lot from it; good and bad.

when my kid turns 16 the last thing would get him would be a brand new sports car, for many reasons but mostly for his and others safety. I see at least two stories a week in S. Fla about kids <19 yrs old wrapping themselves and their cars around trees, lightpoles etc...
why not send them off to paintball with 45 magnums?
inexperienced operator + peer pressure + raging teenage hormones + fast car = ??

My first car was a 1987 piece of crap...I was born in 1985...it cost a total of MAYBE 500 bucks?
Spoiled rich kids make me sick.
...I really hope you dont do something completely stupid...all your friends seem like rice rocket junkies...already getting rims etc...pretty soon mods to up performance...
No offence...but I forsee police lights in your future.

Teenage Mom: "What do you mean little johnny is in the hospital?"
Officer Bob: "Welll ma'am your son was doing 95 mph in a 35 and lost control of his high performance sports car."
Officer Bob: "Turns out he was racing a friend of his in another sports car."
Teenage Mom: "NNNNOOOO how could this happen???"

I am 17 and got the car when I was 16 as well. I would like to see someday when y'all have kids and if you can afford to buy your kid a nice car, you not doing it. You are going to want the best for your child, especially if you can afford it. Maybe you won't and you will get them a beater, but I doubt it.

u dont even know me and ur already insulting my friends for being ricers...i picked the rims because they look good, and are lightweight. Also, the less miles you have on your rims the greater the turn in value will be; if i waited longer to get the rims, the value of my stock rims would have gone down making it more difficult to purchase my new rims. If you actually read some of my posts, u would have read that my friends have stuff like BMWs and G35s... far from ricer.
im only 15 and seem to be more mature than u
wow ur cool...

I'm going to forgive your comments due to the fact you are in those years where you obviously know all there is to know about life.
The point of a first car being a beater derives from statistical facts that people your age make mistakes and get in accidents more than later ages.
Beater does not necessarily mean a car that will only last 6 months, break down, or cost less than a brand new bicycle...
a beater simply means the car will probably be ok with a few dings/scratches/over correcting mistakes etc because it wasn't such a high maintenance vehicle.
You have been driving a total of maybe 500 hours (that is pushing it) and think you can control a sports car.
Peer pressure is evil and will wear on you ... going down the road seeing girls in the car next to you eyeballing the car...and a guy in a 350Z or something similar in the other lane
or in twisties on back roads with your friends in the car telling you to rev high
sooner or later it's going to catch up to you...
maybe you are the exception to the rule
but I'll stick with statistics first until I see it.

What a lucky kid... my first car wasnt till i was 16 cuz i had to wait till my sister was old enough to get her license (parents made me goto class with her). i had to BUY my parents 89 mazda 323 with a blown headgasket and busted taillight. it was a 4 door manual with a 1.4 - 1.6L cant remember, turbo'd four banger lol. it had no tach and no boost gauge, i had to learn to drive manual by listnening to the engine. Its radiator blew up on me once going down the highway and filled the car with hot steam. I loved that car it made me a better driver imo because i rely on sound instead of tach to shift most the time.

Don't be mad at the world that your parents never bought you a sports car when you were young...and I'm sure if they offered you would have taken it gladly
This is exactly the mentality I'm talking about...since when do parents NEED to buy you anything? Did I ever say I wasn't priveledged or my family was low income? No

I'm sure you can use your witty knowledge and understand why I said that from the context of this thread and/or the forum. I don't understand why you are putting words into my post, but you were obviously disgruntled at the fact of the RX-8 being a first car and I was just merely responding. But still...Who the hell cares?

My first car was a $600 Ford falcon with a 289 2bbl V8.
I was 17.
Learned how to repair fords, drive, repair fords, pay for things on my own, repair fords, and be independent. I wouldn't change it for the world. I hope my son will get something we can work on together, just as I did.
But that is me, this thread isn't about me. It is about Ivory8, as well it should be.
Hey, you are happy about your car, as you should be!
Congratulations, it is nicer then mine! (and I am more then twice your age and make more money then your parents. )
It seems like you appreciate what you have, I hope that is true and you continue it.
I have a few recomendations (anyone can feel free to add any I may have missed)
Don't forget is a fantastic piece of machinery, always respect it.
Don't ever, ever, ever drink and drive it.
Don't ever, ever , ever street race it
Don't let anyone put it down, make fun of it or belittle it, even if they drive a g35, ferrari, or a 7 series or whatever
Do attend a few autocross events to find it/and your limits
Do clean and detail it weekly.
Don't ever let your friends mess it up or spill crap in it or jump on the hood or any other stupid crap that friends do.
Do buy models of it to keep in your locker/next to your bed/on your dash/etc to remind you what you have is really cool (this is one of the weird things car lovers do - you are a car lover)
Do always remember that is not a car , it is your dream car.
