I think I have defended teen drivers of RX8's ever since I joined this board. I in no way believe I DESERVE an RX8, but I mean I am going to be honest with you since you seem like such a swell guy ( ) and tell you that I am not going to turn down an RX8 if my parents deem me responsible enough to own one. My parents would not have bought me the car if they thought I could not handle it. Not to mention, it takes a special person to drive the RX8 and definetely a special teen to drive one with all the maintenance, issues, and oil this car requires.

I would have to be an idiot to turn down this car for a beater. Not to mention, it isn't like the RX8 costs upwards of $40k. You can get a used one for $15k nowadays and it is an amazing buy at that price. Not all teens that drive RX8's means that their families/parents are "rich" by any means.

But, please do not lecture me on how teens can't drive and all that crap because honestly it makes no difference to me how some 30 year old man that is on his soap box thinking he is really showing teens who's boss on an internet forum. You can't honestly sit here and tell me that you would have turned down an RX8 for a beater when you were my age just because you are that mature and that's what teens are "supposed" to drive.

Way to ruin a person's thread too.

+1 thanks for the support Bleed...i agree 100% with what he said, granted...the rx8 is a nice car, but its not like I'm getting a Ferrari or a Lambo for my first car.

yes I'm young, and I do own an rx8, i dont believe i Deserve an rx8, its a pleasure to be able to have this car....thats why i saved up an *** load (for a teen) of money because i had always thought id have to buy my own car, I had always thought id be buying a 8 year old civic

i survive by eating a piece of humble pie every morning

Bleed - I see where you're coming from but the stats don't lie. I'm an insurance agent and I see the stats on monthly basis. Male drivers under the age of 25 are 3x's more likely to be in an accident than those over the age of 25. Hence the reason they pay 3x's more for insurance. Those are facts and not opinions.

Are there some people in this forum jealous of ivory, sure. However, don't confuse that with the fact that putting an inexperienced operator behind the wheel of a performance car - statistically, more often than not, leads to losses. Don't take it personally.

Of course no teenager would turn down a sports car as their first car, I wouldn't have. But looking back, I'm glad I waited a few years. My friends with performance cars at that age weren't exactly driving 35 in a 35 or 55 in a 55. Let's not B.S. each other - everyone in this forum has taken their 8 over the century mark on numberous occasions. Our friend Ivory will too, especially with friends that have higher performing cars than his. My hope is that he's like you and mature enough to make the right decisions.

Cheers, and drive safe!

Yeah, thanks for saying that too. It just frustrates me when someone says that teens and you get classified and stereotyped just because of your age. Just because there is 1 teen a month that dies in an accident where he was drunk, high, driving a fast car, inexperienced, or all of the above does not mean that ALL teens are this way. That guy has no idea who I am or what I am like and it is not right for him to put me into a generic catagory. But, I do understand the 3x insurance. Insurance last year was $4700 and I have a 100% clean record.

BTW, two of my friends are surgeons at the largest trauma center in the state of Florida and they tell me the many, many, stories of young men coming in after car and motorcycle accidents. The number is more like 4-5 per day and we're not talking sprains and cuts. Those that do survive either have amputations, brain damage, or paralysis.
Listen, I did stupid **** when I was younger too, i.e. 120 mph on a hwy racing a tricked out civic. The problem isn't whether or not you end up in an accident or a hosptial or a grave, the problem is that we (most of us at that age) do it.

Some of us in the end are just more lucky than others.

hehe yeah, i agree i am lucky...its just aggravating when people say that we are irresponsible because we are younger and that we will speed and may crash/get tickets...when i bet on that same day those people speed on some street X miles above the speed limit on their way home from work.

its just hypocritical to some point...

edit: and im not referring to the numbers of patients your friends have treated, i dont doubt that there are a ton of injured teens from reckless driving

damn, only 15, and the 8 is your first car. Wowzer. Wish the 8 was my first car when i was 15, but no, i had a legend and a broken down FC. But thank god i did had the legend, learn all my bad mistake from it and improve as a driver. Man, at least you have good taste in car, take care of it.

I concur. Which is why I get irritated w/the 'holier than thou' BS towards the youngins. Every story I see/hear/read about some poor sap who checks out at ~18 years old just makes me think that person didn't have the same luck as me - b/c most of the time (except the drunks) it's something I prlly did when I was that age. That being said - it's a lot easier to have the worst outcome w/a fast car vs. a beater.

Thats also why we can give insurance companies our grades and those sorts of things to lower the price of insurance.
