The problem here isn't so much the color. It's the stock wheel that color. Painted stock wheels look good in a shades of dark to light grey metallic. Not in a bright vibrant blue as you have chosen. It's a wheel style thing. Style allows for expansion of flamboyance.
Now look at these wheels. See how they carry the color to your eyes. I'm bold! I'm Blue! and I'm proud of it.

My huge problem is that the wheels by themselves wont look good. Something as simple as RPF1's or RPF1 type II's would actually look decent with a color like that.
Admittedly, I can't say I like the color combination of the car paint + that wheel color, but at least start with a good wheel. If you start with wheels that look bad alone, they wont look any better on the car.

If you must paint your wheels, I recommend something darker. In my opinion unless, they're sliver, they shouldn't be brighter than the car's paint scheme.

I'm not feeling the wheels...
If you're going to paint them, I'd say go with a darker color, more like a gun metal as you have a darker car yourself. IMO, the reason so many people usually pick black for the stock wheels is because it hides the hideousness of the stockies.
I'm in the same boat, can't really afford the set of rims I'm looking at right now but It's not worth putting something I'd regret having in a few days, ex. Rotas or XXRs or ruining the stock rims.

You drive an rx-8 not a mazda 3, I don't see why you would want to drop to that level.. The stock wheels are quite nice imo but not when painted in a HEY GUISE LOOK AT ME PLS colour. It's your car and your call, but that colour combo looks tacky as ****. Just my opinion..

ok here is the thing. if you want your car to look flashy, make sure its got something to look at. making a normal car flashy shouts ricer. the neon/lambo example is pretty clear.

I'mma firin' mah lazor!!!
Nordic Green is my favorite color on an 8, but it really can't pull those off. Try a khaki color, white, or cream color. That will still contrast hard, and will look a million times better.
