BTW your 8 is the nicest of them all the lotus is mearly a toy, your RX-8 is a car that will provide you with far more enjoyment
also if you get a Lotus at 22 that qualifies you as a terd, the RX-8 as an enthusiast :p (just making sure you know you have the better car, because when it comes down to it, the lotus is just a toyota with a fancy shell ) :p

Nice cars! Why don't you join some of us and our RX8s at Road Atlanta on Dec 11th? Of course all cars are welcome (maybe with the exception of the Escalade). The thread is here https://www.rx8club.com/se-rx-8-forum-30/december-track-day-events-se-42133/ for info including costs and how to register.

Actually i need to put a spoiler on my car. $225 is a little steep for me. If i don't go to that then i get a spoiler for like another $100. So i choose to get a spoiler instead of an adrenaline rush. Plus that is too close to christmas for me. Presents are expensive.
And thanks Truemagellen. Believe me i know. The elise would be fun to drive every now and then (like me ) but i couldn't drive it all the time. He does have an old Blazer he is going to drive also. As far as the engine. It doesn't need anymore then that. Plus if they didn't give it that engine where would you take the car to get it serviced?

Lotus does look cool though... But not sure how much it would stand out here in So Cali... when I would go to work, I would see a few Ferraris, bunch of fixed up Escalades with 30" rims, etc etc. It's tough to impress here. I use to think 100k for a car was rare... but it seems everyone and their moms has a C55 AMG Benz or a Porsche. Blah.

I was refering to a rotary engine, specifically the Renesis...which is even lighter than the Toyota engine, and putting out far more power...put that in the light chassis of the elise and you'll have a rocket

Thanks for the pics- the Lotus is absolutely stunning... I briefly thought about holding out a year for one, but the impracticality (having 2 kids and another on the way) won out. Not that I regret the RX-8 at all... but I bet the Lotus even makes a Miata feel like a lead sled.
Curious though about the color- has to be hard for a Dawg to drive around in Gator blue :D

I think I would prefer BMW's new V10

A lot of them messed up because my camera sucks. So more pictures tomorrow. But look at how freaking small the gas pedal is. I thought that would be a pain in the @$$ but it is actually very comfortable. These also have some fat door hinges and there is a reflector on the door that you can only see when its open. Never seen that before. But it may be common.

Wow, I'll say one thing for the Lotus -- it doesn't mind taking some design risks. If you thought the RX-8 or 350Z was a love it or leave it design, the Elise has that in spades. I have to say I think I like the RX-8 styling better -- less spartan, more functional, more graceful.
It looks like the Elise doesn't have any cup holders or storage space. And the Elise hood vent is pretty controversial -- that's either the ugliest or most beautiful hood ever, no in between.
But hey, if your dad wants to adopt me, I wouldn't mind having an Elise, too!

that elise is unbelievably skimp in the interior considering the price of $44k, but I guess it would have to in order to achieve race-class handling and the power to weight ratio.
I would absolutely love to drive it on a track, it's what it was born to do. But I wouldn't risk driving it on 405.. Too many crazy drivers, I wouldn't want to be in that car when an escalade or raised F-350 cuts me off because they either can't see me, don't give a crap, or drive like crap (or all three).

Just thought of something scary the Elise with a rotarty engine? Think about it the Elise currently uses a Toyota sourced engine, pull it and put in a rotarty, smaller lighter, higer reving, more HP for sure, take a car that already weights under a ton and knock an nother 50-100 lbs off of it, while adding more power, scray stuff. To bad it won't happen. Oh well out of my price range anyway but have fun in the twisties.

Performance difference is not that big. Basically the 190 version came out to compete with the turbo 200hp version of Opel's 'Speedster' (or named VX220 in the UK). When I lived in the UK, I saw numerous tuners making FI versions of both Rover engines (120&160). Now that engineering was worth paying for
Still, all Elises are a blast to drive... even the 120hp one...
