Mad as Hell!!!!!
On the way home last night I was just driving along an spotted something in the road. I swerved to miss it and suddenly something else appeared. It turns out they were two pieces of some type of plate steel. The size of a licencse plate or a bit larger. Looked about 1/4 to 3/8" thick. Well I hit one with the front tire, Clang!
Just then I felt it hit the rear tire with a softened kind of feel. First thing I thought is I'm going to have a flat. It has sliced the tire. No TPMS light and the car did not feel funny. So when I pulled over to survey the damage ,I saw this,,,
It took a chunk out of my tire and sliced the lip of my rim about 2" long and about 1/8" deep. Carved it right out. The black mark is from my finger wiping the dirt off but if you look you can see the rim has been shaved. SOB!!!!
Well I guess I will have to buy a new tire, for safety's sake. I was thinking about a new set of rims too.
I wonder if this is covered under my comprehensive coverage on my insurance?

Yeah Erick, It'll be covered and it won't affect your rating.
Progressive covered my destroyed MS bumper and even covered the installation and paint (which I pocketed to cover my $200 deductible) and listed it as a not-at-fault accident.
PITA to get new rims, but they will only cover the damaged one, so that will probably be part of your considerations on what to do.
Where the hell did that happen?
I hit a 3' square plate (probably a downed street sign of some sort) on the ramp off the 202 onto Priest. Just went by with no complications, though.

So, have you ever thought of upgrading to after-market rims?

Damn. Imagine what that would've done to a motorcyclist? Glad to hear you're okay though--what the hell was it? Somekind of booty trap?
Here in California, CALTRANS would cover something like that. I don't know what the equivalent is in Arizona, but they should cover it. Do you still have the projectile?

Well It was dark and I went looking for the piece the next day and couldn't find it. I think someone picked them up. It happened on Ironwood which is under construction ( I was doing about 45)and there is no shoulder on the south bound side. So I couldn't pull over. Just wonder how many other people hit them.

I had one of those HUGE campers kick up a rock and put a nice big divit in my windshield. It's only a matter of time until it cracks and has to be replaced. It's unreal how jacked up our windshields get here. Mine looks like it's been hit with a sand blaster.
Anyhow here's another picture of Easy's wheel & tire damage. Look at about 11:00 in the photo to see it. I still can't believe it!

Insurance will pay that out of comprehensive with a not-at-fault status so it won't affect your rating.

Well I just got off the phone with my insurance company. They are going to class it as a "collision". Thus they say I would have to pay my $400.00 deductible. Bas***ds!
I am going to talk to the claims guy tomorow and see what he say's. I will also talk to my agent tomorrow.
Have to see what happens.

Well the adjuster called andsaid it is a "collision" in there eye's. Why? I asked. Well he said "If it was not on the ground then the comprehensive would cover it." So ,I asked if it was floating in the air or fell out of the sky it would be covered under comp. not collision?
He said "yes".
Since it was on the ground and I hit it they call it a collision. If it fell off of someones car/truck and did not touch the ground before I hit it then it would be comprehensive. So if I was hit by a plane that would be comp.? Yes.
So make sure whatever you hit is not touching the ground. Make sure it's levitating.

I went through the same thing for that rock I hit. For it to be covered by comprehensive I to claim that it was moving and it tracked my car like a missle.
Collision is just that. If you hit it and say that was still when you hit it, it's all your fault.
Since it was laying still "you" could have avoided it.

Pics, pics, and more pics of the area you hit this f8cking POS metal object. If it's a construction zone & there's NO WAY you could have avoided it you might be able to make a fuss. GL, tho. Insurance companies suckass. I would guess that, like most big companies, if you hire a lawyer/threaten a suit, it's cheaper for them to just pay you to STFU than to actually go to court.
Course, the problem becomes a $$$ equation for you, too. Lawyer fees + hassle vs. cost of just buying new shoes.
