I'm sure that this photo will have a much more narrow appeal, but it certainly counts as eccentric. As with that Girls Gone Wild investigation, I made an effort to suspend my judgement while composing the photo. This location was also downtown Houston just a few blocks away from those first two photos above. There was much more powerful symbology right underneath that flag that I snapped repeatedly to capture, but I'm not sure that I'll post it.
THAT FLAG IS A DISCRASE. To dishonor the country flag like that in, you should be ashamed,.

Jingoistic pride and horrible spelling go hand in hand.

I've seen that flag several times. I never thought of it as a disgrace to the American flag, because it's not an American flag. (Different colors. 6 vs 13, and such.) But if you were offended by that image, I can imagine what your reaction would be if you saw the little barbeque next to that flag. Hanging out of it was a bona fide US-of-A flag. (If anyone would like to see that photo, just let me know.)

I myself don't get too worked up over something like that. Quite to the contrary, the fact that citizens of this country feel the freedom to make such public displays is one of the qualities of this country that impresses me the most. This country is not about everybody being forced to fall in line with the state-dictated norm. It is about breaking from the pack, even when the vast majority think that you're crazy to do so. It is somewhat analogous to the advantage of sexual reproduction over asexual reproduction. You may see a varietal offshoot as a deficient mutant strain. And chances are, it is. But you can be surprised and even shocked to see what forms of diversity take root and perhaps even grow to become the majority themselves. Take rock music. Think back to how society was appalled by Elvis the Pelvis. Fast forward to today and imagine a world without rock. They freakin sell Cadillacs to Led Zeppelin.

Ok, back to the topic of this thread. I started it because I was bored with the standard "hey, take a look at my RX-8 in my driveway" photos. In the interest of branching out to something more diversified, I posted wacky photos of unusual things framed by my 8 with 4-doors open and whatnot. Over on a companion thread I started a theme for aerospace photos.

I did so with the hope that others would join in and post their own creative efforts along the lines of these themes. But to date the majority of the feedback has been negative. On both threads combined, I have been disappointed with the amount of contributions by others. There have been great contributions from others, but I had been hoping for a lot more.

...yet I continue to 'seed' these threads with my best attempts at creative RX-8 photos.

Please do post negative feedback if that's what you see the need for. These threads may grow, or they may die off. Even if you hate the photos, or the representations that they might be symbolic of, I hope at the very least that people here appreciate the diversity. If your boredom has been alleviated here by at least a few seconds, then I will take that as a bonus.

Hmm... The sets of photos I've shared on two posts in this thread have gotten clobbered. That's after an entire series of photos that I posted on the 'Aerospace' thread had gotten clobbered.

Maybe it's time for me to bail on this website and take my pictures somewhere that has more stability.

"Dude, where's my photos?"

Wouldn't that be doing the exact opposite of what you love about this country - as stated so eloquently 3 posts back??

I like the idea of this thread and the aero one - I think I said so there, too.

I would think that sticking around and continuing such threads (and ideas) in the face of negativity would be akin to "breaking from the pack, even when the vast majority think that you're crazy to do so", but if you can't take criticism (warranted or not) then go ahead and bail.

savvy?

Rainbow = gay.

stickers on cars, raibows on clothes, etc. now symbolize homosexuality. Not sure how it worked that way, but I guess when I think about it rainbows have always been a little ghey.

Personally I think that flag is a disgrace, too. The American flag, imo, should be a proper flag and nothing else. No clothing, bug-deflectors, or any other application should be allowed. But it's a free country, and it ain't my lawn.

My understanding is that the rainbow was chosen as a symbol of diversity in general, not just any one particular group. And then the isolation from those other connotations of diversity happened as quickly as putting a drop of dishwasher soap into greasy water. Somewhat like the word 'gay' itself. Prior to the '80s, the word meant a joyous happiness. But when the word was championed by the homosexual community, everyone else bailed on it (except for the seasonal Christmas carol or two).
