my kids are both now forward facing (although one was rear facing for a while) but they've only been in the 8 a few times. each time they were in their recaro seats and loved it and to be honest those seats fit better in there than my wife's honda. but if they were going to be in there a lot and even one of them was an infant i would think twice. whoever is in front of that rear facing seat has to move up pretty close to the dashboard and it's not that easy to get them in and out rear facing.

best of luck to you with whatever you decide.
thanks for the advice.

we have my wife's mazda 3 which will probably do most of the baby hauling anyway. but i wanted to know that the 8 could do it in a pinch. i know the rear facing thing is a slight issue but people have done it. i'll have to keep that in mind though.

one of those times i had them in there was the New England spring run and they did pretty well considering we logged about 750 miles in two days. it's certainly doable.

mUg, that sucks FYI though the 8 is a terrific baby hauler. It's a tight squeeze for some rear facing seats but they all fit and work just fine. Besides after a year when you flip the seat forward it works beautifully.

holy crap! Sorry Mugatu, that really sucks.

How's your back doing? Make sure you take care of yourself... often, back injuries seem "okay" but can resurface days later if not cared for properly.

nope, no messing around...just driving in the center lane. i'm hoping that's not the impression just because of what my car looks like...in the eyes of the insurance company.

i'll know more this upcoming week. as it stands now, it looks like I may have a replacement 8 lined up.

damn mugatu sorry about the accident, and hope you're alright.... Well my cousin he went through the same thing, brand new bmw 335i only like 1000 miles on the car, basically the other car was switching lanes and basically does a police officers pit maneuver on him and he spins out all over the highway..... clearly the other guys fault, but the insurance check was for what the car was worth at the mileage it was during the accident. so if you only had 400 miles on it you should get a good amount, i dont know if this helps you or not... but hope it all works out

I don't think you'll have a problem with the payout - seeing that car is brand new, just remember that everything IS negotiable so have the window sticker or sales contract at hand when the adjuster offers the payout. I fight these battles w/3 carriers that I work with on behalf of my clients and end up getting them back more than what was originally offered.

I was wondering that too! I didn't want to say anything and was waiting for someone else. On the outside chance that you do.....................dibs on the center console cover! You know....the piece in front of the cup holders where the seat warmer buttons are. That's all I really need at this point.

if the car is considered totaled by insurance, the car is no longer mine to part out, at least that is what I'm told. Believe me, i want the damn navigation in the car, since I got such a good deal on it and probably won't be able to get another one with nav.

If you get a new 8, you could be the first to get the official "JDM Baby Seats" in the Japanese accessory book!

Sorry about your car...It was pretty.

I was hoping it was totaled as it didn't look like it was.

Now you can get a replacement.

I had a drunk hit two of my cars two weeks ago and totaled one so I know how you feel.

Looking at it, I'd stay that they will total it. That's the best possible thing for you anyway.

Well I know this is a RX8 forum and I do own and drive an RX8, but for small children you may consider the spacious Mitsubishi Evo 8 or 9. I also drive one of those and the back seat is really spacious even for adults do to the roof design. Also all three of the rear seats have the child seat hook on the rear decklid. It even gets similar gas mileage, is faster and has great steering. It does not have the same cockpit feel of the RX8, but it is a rocket in a sedan skin. Also with AWD it is very safe in all weather conditions. Please don't flame just have the children in mind.

well now i am dealing with insurance. my insurance company is lowballing me on the value of my car. being that i bought a leftover '06, they are really shooting low on what the value is. i believe they use NADA, rather than someplace like Kelley BLue Book.

anyone have any luck negotiating the value of the car with insurance?

thanks for the advice. i am going through that right now, where they offered me a very low number and I sent them a copy of my bill of sale and my window sticker. can you give me any advice on how I can successfully get close to what I want?

I can't help you, but I can tell you that my first car that I bought (paid cash) was totaled after about 30 days of ownership. Some asshat ran into me when I was the only car in a 3 lane road, at a stop light. He didn't see me, and didn't see the red light.

I lost about $1500 on the car. It was a used Neon... so 1.5k off a 8.5k purchase was pretty significant.
