:D I think you have that backwards, Mike - I already AM an engineer, I'm not the guy pretending to be one. :p Sorry if that post seemed to be a bit pedantic, but when you take the professional engineering exams (after 2 or more years of apprenticing following graduating from the university program), they drill it into you about the entitlement to use the title "engineer".

So he's a rich poseur - I love the Diablo, but that doesn't make him any less a poseur. Should I suck up instead because he's got an expensive car?

Instead of an RX* club forum it should be a critics forum. I just cant win with you guys...Oh well. By the way, if 8 years of engineering work, 2 years of aviation school, and an FAA certification doesnt make me an engineer, then what, may i ask does? A fake degree from the internet? hell....maybe.

What does? An engineering degree from an accredited university. It's very simple. I'm not meaning to give you a hard time, but them's the facts - if you want to call yourself an engineer, that's what it takes. Without that degree - you aren't an engineer. Well, I'll also mention - 12 year old kids are NOT doing engineering work. You're grossly exaggerating your qualifications in your claim to the title anyway. If you want to call yourself an engineer - go spend 4 years in university.

I'm happy for you for your success, you're very fortunate. I imagine you also work very hard for it, so don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge you anything. However - I and every other legitimate engineer worked very hard to earn the title, even though we generally have much less money than you. I can't see that you need to misappropriate the title that you haven't earned. You wouldn't seriously consider going around calling yourself a lawyer, doctor, or chartered accountant without having received the appropriate education, training and professional certification, would you? It's no different for the engineering profession.

Technically it is possible to be an engineer at 20. I know, I started College at 16 but it was a 5 years Engineering Program so I was older than 20 when I graduated...

Not good to be 2 years younger than everyone else and still more applied to studies so you apprear to be more intelligent... everyone hates you and you're left out...

There's nothing wrong with calling yourself an engineer, even if you don't have an engineering degree. A distinction needs to be made here between an "engineer" and a "licensed Professional Engineer". There is a licensing board in most states, such that yes, you do need certain qualifications (including an engineering degree from an accredited university engineering program) to become a P.E., but Gord, I think you're going way overboard into semantics. Addicted isn't (as far as I can tell) "falsely using the title" of Professional Engineer, when he just says he's an engineer.

And for the record, I have an engineering degree from Virginia Tech.
