For the US, you may be right. In Canada, the title 'engineer' IS that strictly controlled. For example, Novell was challenged and not allowed to use the term 'Certified Netware Engineer' for their certified administrators. Here in Canada, if you're not a licensed Professional Engineer, you are not permitted to use any form of the title 'engineer', and the Engineering Societies do aggressively protect it.

Sorry for sidetracking your thread, Adictive - the cars and the babe are hot!

Given definition #1. I'd say he is justified in calling himself an engineer.

Given definition, #2 we're all engineers

Given definition #3, Captain Kirk is an engineer :D

Gord, he IS in the U.S. tho Also, my job title says engineer in it also.. and I don't have a degree at all. I work for VNU, a global media corporation.

en·gi·neer Pronunciation Key (nj-nîr)

2. One who operates an engine.

The person who drove that lamb claimed to be 25, which means he isn't the same as our RX-8 friend.

AdictiveRX...

You have been a great sport putting up with us here.......were just a bunch of clowns.

If I had a Diablo.....I'm sure it would have made it into a picture or two that I have posted.
Many other members would have been very sore at all the comments you have received. You laugh it off and keep posting cool pics... Keep it up.

(especially keep up the pics we can have photoshop fun with...at your expense... )

Thanks guys. I love your replies. Glad i can bring some "spice" to these threads. The guy in the pics on that site is not me. He has different rims and mine says "Twin Supercharged" On the side. Besides, how much fun could 750 horses be in a frickin' parking lot. For those who wonder, yes, i am loyal to my girl. We have been together a year or so. Besides, after seeing her, would you be unfaithful to that?!
You guys are awsome, thanks for the laughs, keep em comin!

Gord, if I'm not mistaken, you're speaking about Canadian, or even Alberta laws, whereas our topless friend lives in California. There are most certainly no international laws concerning job/occupation titles. As far as using the word "Engineer" in a title, I know that it can be done without any degree in France, U.K., and (at the very least) the state of California. Each of these governments understands the need for protected titles and has implemented protected titles for engineers to the degree of "graduate engineer" (ingénieur diplômé) in France, "incorporated engineer", "engineering technician" et al. in U.K., and "professional engineer" in many U.S. states. Beyond these, there are of course countless titles that do require either degrees or, more frequently in the U.S., licensing or certification. The word "engineer" however can legally be put in front of or behind any other silly job title you like as long as it is not one of those specific protected titles.

I work in silicon valley, and degreeless "engineers" are more common here than anywhere else I am sure. Network engineers, system engineers, field service engineers; the list goes on and on. These are job titles written on resumes and business cards. Just about every technology company in the California SF bay area would be voilating a law if any of these titles were protected. I'm a degreeless Network and Critical Systems Engineer myself, and I regularly hire, let go, and have any number of other "Network Engineers" working for me at any point in time. My company has locations in half a dozen other US States and uses the same job titles across the board.

I don't mean to jump to anybody's defense, but you convey a strong sense of authority in your posts, certainly one of the reasons you're so well respected on the boards, but I think you were neglecting the possibility that the laws are different where our friend lives than where you live.

Doh, I spent far too long looking stuff up before posting this and see there have been a bunch of replies since I started. That's what I get for research. Oh well, there may be some useful data in it. Sorry for rehash.

Ok, I type way too slow. Sorry.

But, with a girl like that, how can you not at least be an honorary Aeronautical Engineer? She certainly has some good aerodynamics to her.

I guess the car ain't bad either.

I doubt that the guy making buttplugs tells everyone that's what he does. Just like everyone, he desires some respect and calls himself an "**** Entertainment Engineer".
