My Center Caps/Your Opinion Pls...

I had my winter wheels and tires dropped shipped to the installer ($12 total to install - $3 a wheel - that's crazy!). In any case, the ASA LW5 wheels look awesome, but I'm not sure about the center cap. The salesperson didn't mention that the caps would be blue. Can it be changed? Should I change it?

When I got my tires/wheels from tire rack they had a protective blue plastic covering the center caps- it just pealed off.

Could this be true on yours?

LOL. That would have been a great story. Unfortunately, they seem to be deliberately part of the wheel. My invoice says they are "4 Asa tuner cap / blue anodize In Stock N/C". At least I didn't pay for them.

Close up follows:

no offense, I really don't like the blue. The rims themselves look sweet, though.

No offense taken. I'm trying to get a sense of people's feelings about it because if people really liked it, I'd probably just leave it and let it grow on me. I don't hate it; it's just a bit different. However, I realize that the blue doesn't match anything else on the car and I was hoping that maybe Tire Rack would have different color center caps. If there were gray or silver centers, I think I'd just swap them. I'm wondering if anyone knows - I don't see anything on the web about center caps for sale.

I'm not a fan. I would see if you can get something with a cleaner look. I have seen the same ASA wheels with matching center caps with a gold dot in the center and it looked much better. I have a bad feeling that they don't sell centercaps seperately though, give em a call because they sure don't offer them on their webpage.

IMO, the wheels do nothing for the car. They don't make a bold enough statement to me. I actually like the stock wheels as opposed to those. However, the wheels may look better on the Winning Blue RX-8 with those center caps being blue as well.

Let's not forget these are his "winter wheels" and not his bling bling mac daddy rims.. okay..

He's main concern is the looks of the center cap. Well, I don't think the blue goes that great with the gray. I wish I could find an old post about the guy that did blue center caps and yellow calipers... damn now that was funny!

EDIT:
Hey I found that old thread, it's entertaining reading!

I ordered the same rims and got the same surprise, however, my 8 is blue so they look like they belong there. I'm not so sure they work as well with the Tit. Gray.

I spoke to Jim at Tire Rack in South Bend this morning. He tells me that the blue is the default cap for the LW5 -- makes no sense to me. In any case, he says that they have silver caps and are sending them out at no charge. So far, I've been very happy with Tire Rack. We'll see what arrives and I'll let everyone know. Maybe a compromise would be blue caps on one side and silver on the other? Blue in the front, silver on the back? Now there are so many possibilities!

Went to take the wheel off today to put on the new caps. I assumed that I'd have to remove the wheel and found that I could not budge the lug nuts. Frustrated, I took a claw-end of a hammer to the back of the blue caps, just to see if I was wasting my time pulling the wheels off. Sure enough, the blue cap just popped off exposing the rusted center of the axel. If I hadn't scratched the blue cap slightly, I would have been thrilled. Still, now I knew how to change the caps, and the rest was easy. The new caps just popped right in. Pics follow.
