Really sorry.

As for the 16 y.o., she made a mistake and you unfortunately were the victim of her inexperience. We all make mistakes and I wonder how many of those critical of young drivers here would have agreed to have sacrificed their own licenses when they were 16 to laws for higher driving ages?

You were all 16 once and I dare say most of you screwed up at least once driving and were not hung!
Personally, I think age is always a bad measure to use as far as requirements are concerned. Whether someone is 16, 26, or 56, they're still capable of being an idiot. An idiot with a 3,000 lb destructive force known as a car? That's inexcusable, no matter what the age. Driving tests should be more difficult all the way around, regardless of age. Age here is a red herring. The point is that being able to pass a written exam anyone with an IQ above 30 could pass and a driving test anyone can pass doesn't prove someone can drive a car safely.

Age is not a factor here, stupidity, carelessness, and ignorance are the factors. Those people with those characteristics are the ones who need to be weeded out of the driving pool.

As far as a mistake is concerned, I wouldn't want anybody to pay for my mistakes, why am I having to pay for hers?

You should be able to argue the value with the insurance co. They should be able to provide you with a discount for most makes of car also. Tell them you want your car replaced with the same....or the money to do it!

If you let them...they will bend you over...with no lube. Stand up and tell them you won't take it!
