My Stripey 8
Hey there,
First post, first 8, first rotary. I've been lurking these forums for a few weeks, in the run up to getting my RX-8. I was a tad worried about fuel consumption, etc etc, but now I have it... screw that - this has to be the most amazing car I've ever driven. Smooth as butter but nice and fast. Yes, maybe a hot-hatch will beat me off the line by a hair, but while he's hammering the nuts off his engine and understeering round anything near a 'bend' I'll be gliding along as if I'm on air. As for the people who say it's too thirsty, or it uses too much oil, or it isn't reliable, or that it has no torque, or that 1.3L engines suck... well, screw them - my rear doors open backwards!*
Anyway, I got it on Friday and the weather is finally good enough here to actually get some pictures done.
I've not modified the car at all (well, except an iPod link inside) - it came with the stripes. What do y'all reckon?
Yes, that is the Eurostar going past in the background:
And of course, the obligatory suicide doors pic:
* Yes, yes, I'm aware that the suicide doors aren't the only thing that can beat most other cars... but it pisses off people who are trying to put down your car - "Well, my car has more torque than that little rotary!" ... "Yeah, but my doors open backwards!"

Welcome! Great Looking 8!
wow, obviously your in europe, the car came with the polished wheels and stripes!!!!????
that is THE BEST looking stock rx8 I have ever seen (other than the JDM mazdaspeed), the white/gunmetal is a great combo and the polished wheels (we get them stateside on the american Shinka edition) look great as well....I have also always had a soft spot in my heart for the euro-lip on the trunk lid.
Ive never seen the stripes on the 8....it looks great!
That is one clean car!

The wheels, strakes and clear corners can all be dealer installed options, so they could have very well been on the car while it was sitting on the lot. As for the stripes. I guess the dealer did that to.
I think it looks great.

In the UK, the 8's are sold a bit differently than they are in the USA, from what I can see. We don't have 'packages', like the GT package I keep hearing about. You start with a stock 8, then add whatever you want to it - leather, sat-nav, accents, chrome wheels, etc etc. Those stripes aren't on the options list, though.
The clear corners are standard on UK models. They're indicators - flash when you indicate left/right.
What are strakes? Are they the fins on the 'gills' behind the front wheelarches? They're an added extra too, along with all the other stuff.
Anyway, I went into the dealer wanting an RX-8 with leather, sat-nav, and maybe the fins and front accent. When I walked in, that car was sitting in the showroom all shiny and done up like that. Those stripes were on it, along with Mazda logos and "FIA International Racing" down the sides.
I tried to resist, I really did. But I'm weak, and I gave in! I asked them to remove the writing and logos, but keep the stripes. 2 weeks later, here I am...
Edit: Ooo, and there's no automatic 8 here - there's the low powered one (5-speed manual, 192ps) and the high powered one (6-speed manual, 231ps). We have to drive them properly here :p. They all have traction control too - it comes as standard no matter what one you get.

It looks quite striking. Not much of a fan of stripes, but if you have to do it, that's the best looking way. It kind of reminds me of this Maserati Gransport pic I took a couple of weeks ago:

Your choice of stripes look great... best I've seen thus far. White and grey go well, I've seen a few other color combinations and and stripe designs and none have appealed until now.
Welcome!

I have always said, stripes do not belong on the 8, it has far too many curves that ralley stripes destroy or cover up.
BUT, now I stand corrected, those stripes looks superb. Very well done, and great color choice. Even down to the smallest detail in how they put the stripe over the rotar symbol above your front lip spoiler....I stand corrected. RX8's CAN looks excellent when the stripes are done so perfectly.
Thanks for sharing.
P.S. A few of those pictures are nice enough to enter into the RX Tuner photo contest.

Definitely gotta enter those pics in the contest. I love the stripes. Like catalyst said this is by far the best job I've seen on an 8. Great job and welcome to the club!
