pretty much sound unless you do a testpipe or high flow cat. Even then, the gains are pretty modest. Also, one needs to buy a high quality hi-flow cat that can handle the EGTs from the rotary. In addition, a test pipe with throw a CEL unless you do an 02 fooler. I don't know if there is one that works for the 8. I like my car quiet, and when my cat plugged up I just had the dealer replace it with an oem peice. The difference from plugged to unplugged is huge, so make sure your stock bits are in good shape.

I think triangular exhaust tips would be sweet. I've been looking for em all over but to no avail...

I think triangular exhaust tips would be a little too much. Keep in mind you still have the rotory shape in the center of the bumper.

exhaust tips are a great idea...

my only question is there an aftermarket exhaust tip kit that isn't permanent- ie can be installed yourself (maybe by just fitting on top of the stock ones) and that doesn't have to be welded on? that would be nice in case some day u sell the car or get sick of the look and want to go back to stock.

does anyone know?

New exhaust tips have to welded on.

My muffler shop had to cut the old tips off and weld new tips on. The stock tips HAVE to be cut off since they're put on very, very well from the factory.

Not a DIY if you ask me. Labor isn't too bad.

where would you even start with cutting off an exhaust piece like that?

Look at it this way it is much less expensive than exhaust finishers and the tips look pretty damn fly.

You wouldn't want a set that just slid over the stock tips because they would eventually rattle.

After you had the tips replaced you it would be unlikely that you would want to go back.

Actually it's an easy DIY. Just cut the 3 point welds with a dremel and bolt the new tips.

Dude, it's not that big a deal. The whole thing should take less than 1/2 hour. If you're worried about cutting your old tips off, just take a drive down to Westminster where I got mine done. It was really easy.

Do it! Here is another picture for your persuasion.

Looks great. It's suprisingly easy to do this with the OE exhaust still mounted to the car. Just remove the right and left trim around the exhaust tips. Then cut the OE tips off, size up and fit on the new tips.

Here are the tips I had installed. It only cost me $45 to have the two tips installed. The tips were vendor samples from my last job. (Loved 'dem perks)

I like my car quiet but when I step on it, but then I expect rotary engine noise not the crappy exhaust sound from the back.

Thats what makes the car cheap.

haha

guys i understand that tips do not have to deal with muffler sound, but as these are 4" and the stocks are 2",

does it makes any difference at all?

Not unless you put on tips that have a whistle or something built in
