Talking Pearl Aluminum Voodoo Shift **** Installed!

I know there have been others that have posted these too, but I'm very excited about this mod.
I just got home, and there it was waiting for me.
The Pearl Aluminum Voodoo Shift ****.
I ordered mine from Knobmeister because he sells them laser engraved for $50. Shipping was $2.
Took all of 60sec, including picture taking time, to install.

+++Very fast delivery. Great product. Wonderful customer service. Great Ebayer!!! (Sorry, force of habit.) :o

Haven't driven it yet. But I will later on tonight.

BTW - The pearl matches the interior perfectly, and it feels great.

What is the throw like? Looks really stuby which is very good.

Well, it's hard to say until I actually drive it. I went through the gears while parked, and they felt shorter.
I'm heading out in about an hour to go for a drive, and see what I think.
I'll post comments later tonight.

Now all you need is the Axialflow short shifter!

Well I drove around tonight.
The throws seem slightly shorter, but only slightly. I could hardly tell.
The biggest change is how comfortable the ball feels. It also allows you to 'feel' the shifting better, so it seems smoother and at the same time more feedback from the gears.
I think the padding on the stock **** hides a lot of vibrations. Now I feel like I am more in-tune with what the tranny is doing.
I also feel the ball warming up after I drive for a while and the tranny gets to operating temp.
It will probably get hot in the 100 degree summer days, but that's why I got a car with AC.
Tomorrow I am going to add some anti-sieze, because I'd hate to have this thing stuck on the stock shifter when I buy the RP short shifter.
The RP Shifter is definately my next purchase.

Is it a screw on base? Or does it 'clamp' around the shaft?

Looks nice!

Is the new shifter lighter than the stock one? I am asking because in my previous car (Mazda6), when I change the shifter for the Mazdaspeed one was so light that it felt I grabbing to the metal stick (the one you screw the shifter on)

Your comment about vibration makes me believe that it is lighter.

Just weighed them both.
The stock is 11.5oz the Voodoo is 6.5oz. Almost half the weight.

I thought you wanted a short shifter...not a shorter shifter.

I'm getting to the short shifter. This was just a quick fix for now.
My plan is to have both.

Very nice. I want one. My only worry is that it will get too hot to touch in the summer.

I like the way it looks, but I'd be afraid of the shifter getting hot after a day sitting in the sun. The small portion of metal on the stock shifter already burns my hand here in Texas.

I've got the same **** with Richard Paul's short shift kit. I love the combination. Because there's a lot less rubber/nylon (whatever it is) involved, you get a lot more feeling from the setup. It does make a bit more noise, but shifts are very easy and very positive. I wouldn't go back. I also love the ball style as opposed to the pistol grip style of the factory ****.

By the way, it does get pretty hot on summer days, but never to the point where it was unusable or anything like that. It collects heat quickly, but it loses it quickly as well as soon as it's out of the direct sun. Haven't had it in the winter time yet though.

Ya, I'll have to see what happens next summer. It get's up over 100 here. I'm not too worried about the blistering cold 70 degree winters though.

It gets hot but not unbearable, and it's goten over 110 here. If you're going to park in the sun all day you can just put a cap over it, or the Knobmesiter makes little black-wool "**** gloves" for women and sissies (jk! actuallyl sounds like a good idea).

One thing to keep in mind if you're getting custom engraving, the **** will need to make 2 trips. When you first get it, unengraved, you screw it on to the shift post to "index" it and find the point on the **** that faces forward when the **** is tight. Then you send it back for the engraving. That way the engraving can be placed so it's facing the right way when the **** is properly tightened.

Resurrection time!!!!!

I have a voodoo and the AFE short shifter. I love the combo. Nice feel, short throws, and very concise.
Is it the AFE short shifter, or the RP short shifter?

Richard Paul owns Axial Flow Engineering so the terms are inter-changable.
