Anyone and everyone please feel free to give me tips/advice!! And I'm a real newbie... someone please fill me in on what DSC is? Thanks. And smooth recovery, Joliet!
Any vehicle can hydroplane ( get slippy) on a wet road, doesn't matter the drive train. Poor tire tread, ( turning off your miracle maker as I call it) and over reacting, IE oversteer cause more accidents like this than anything else. DSC is traction control. Ya know that little grip that you feel when the *** end starts to slide even on dry pavement when you take a turn too quick. It come on automatically when you turn over your engine, has to be turned off manually, and if you do not know how, them I will not be the one to tell you.

I believe most will agree that little safety net is best left on unless you are on a closed track. The fella's accident is a prime example.

OP, I'm glad you and your passenger survived this, and I hope you complete a full recovery. It could have been very different for both of you..I didn't look at the pictures, there is no need in my mind. I know the capacity of the air bags, and I have resigned myself to believe that my car will keep me safe as long as I do what I know I'm supposed to do while driving, to include keeping the farking DSC ON!!!!

I hope that in your drug induced state that you can see my rant is only out of concern.

Well, I don't think it's going to be another rx-8......as much as I'd like it to be. After I bought my car my credit went completely in the crapper from being unemployed. I won't be financing another one. I've sold alot of my home theater, audio/video components,blu-ray and radio controlled cars to pay for the Esmeril turbo and all the accessories. I'm going to need to sell all my parts and pay cash for a beater. There's really no point getting another car even after I recover because I got 3 tickets from this accident: driving too fast for conditions, improper lane usage (because I spun into the oncoming lane) and use of unsafe tires (all 4 with little or no tread). I was planning on getting winter tires after I installed the turbo. I already got 6 moving violations this year before this incident and facing a 12 month drivers suspension and fines over $1000 so..........I don't know what I'm gonna do. For now I'm just focusing on learning to walk and stuff.

That's funny cuz until my mom got my camera out of my glove box, took some pics and brought them to the trauma center where I am, I wasn't sure if the car was totalled or not because I couldn't remember how bad it was. I just remembered seeing the front end right after I got out of the car. Somebody told me I didn't look good and that I should sit down. I was in a daze. I plopped down on the side of the road and before I knew it the paramedics where putting me on a stretcher.

Not entirely sure yet if there is anything other than the gauges I had pulled out that I can get. I'm guessing by the time I get out of here and am strong enough to work on the car that the car will be gone.

Not sure. I don't know how long it will be sitting where it is. I wish I could get under it and take the exhaust off and other mods but there's no way. I can barely walk right now with the use of a walker.

Glad you're alive and able to tell us about it.
That had to be a scary event.

I'm not going to give you "a good talking to", but I will say to you that you were totally irresponsible for driving a sports car in traffic under dangerous weather conditions with DSC or traction control disabled. You were asking for trouble.

I consider myself to be an expert RWD driver with great examples of power.
As I was instructed at HP driving school, I never disable DSC or TCS on public roads.

lucky you're still alive. As others have said, you should have left the DSC on. Can you specify what happened? Did you loose control just accelerating at a rather normal rate, or were you getting on it?

I really don't think DSC does THAT much but I guess I don't drive fast enough in the rain to need it.

. . .That is pretty intense. It sounds like you know you made a mistake by too much gas and not enough DSC...

I couldn't see in the pics: Did all the airbags deploy? I'm saw both fronts, but did the side curtains deploy also?

From the damage, do you this it was the steel beam in the door that broke your pelvis? Or just force of impact? I know you probably have no clue. But I'm just curious.

That is really amazing that you're even alive: that car is destroyed.

My Suggestion for your next car: Subaru Outback Wagon - (no turbo)
Or Jetta TDI... that diesel is an absolute slug. 90hp I think.

Get you out of a sports car for awhile.
