Porsche GT vs RX-8 at Mt Tremblant
For your enjoyment, video of me and my VR RX-8 dicing it out at Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada with the Audi Club Oct 1-2. A great national Audi event with 69 top instructors from all over North America, and an equal amount plus some more of us lucky students.-
spin :D
-----------------------------
- 1st is a couple laps with my instructor and I, along with a nice Porsche GT. You'll see I was going so fast my instructor was a little concerned (needlessly:p ). I'm not quite sure whether it was concern for us or for the $650,000 car ahead? Nevertheless, he was a whole bunch of fun to have in the car and I learned a lot with him, esp. after he took me for a session in his race-preped Audi ! What a G-Force blast that was!! It taught me I'm no where near the limits of what is possible .
- 2nd video is the last run of the event, after I was gradulated to the Advanced group, and approved to solo as well. I got my best lap time of 2:05 in this session, and learned that is (merely!) 31 sec off the (during a race) record for the track. I think me & my 8 could shave another 10 sec toward that time with better tires, and more practice.
I'll certainly return to Mont Tremblant next year - I think it was the most interesting, most fun track I've experienced so far, slightly ahead of my previous favorite - Watkins Glen, NY

The 8 is a momentum, brakes, and cornering car with great overall balance- and once in a good track rhythm - it's really surprising that many awesome cars can't keep up the overall pace...zoom...zoom

Excellent video Spin9k. Impressive driving too. Nicely done.
I was at a BMW CCA event in August and as you said, the track was spectacular!
Unfortunately, I ended up being a bit of a chicane in the intermediate group (having trouble finding my rythym, plus I didn't really gel with my instructour) but I'm glad to see how succesful you were there!
I plan to come back next year and redeem my self.
Glad you got all that in-car footage, because I wasn't able to get any for my self.

Cool videos though. Can I ask what type of camera you are using?

Yea the camcorder. Well, I decided to get better video than previous attempts so I bought the new HD Camcorder from Sony, the HDR-HC1. I shot 1080i HD footage of everything, but had to mightly dumb them down to a 256MB stream (long vid) and 512MB stream (short vid).
For friends I've saved a 3MB stream to CD which looks amazingly like HD (640x480p 60fps) with a 500MB file size . Just like being there although although still not HD which let you see amazing detail for better virtual reality reliving! :D
