Cobb supplied an AccessPort tuner for me to play with for a tech story! I want to prove what sort of power and fuel economy the RENESIS might pick up at light throttle cruising with proper MOP metering and a better Catalytic Converter. MazdaManiac is going to help when he gets the chance.

It wasn't a freeway exit, it was an on ramp over in Buena Park to the I-5 North. It was 6:30 in the morning on Good Friday, and traffic was light, except for the GTO mating with my rear bumper. I really HATE when people can't respect proper spacing around my very nice-looking car. I don't tailgate other people with really nice cars, especially if I'm driving a near 4000-lb domestic with crappy OEM brakes! If I'd had to stop in a hurry, or if he wasn't paying attention while talking on his cell phone, my car could have been screwed up before it even got to HIN!

I safely navigated the turns on the on-ramp, the GTO couldn't. That's the point. RX-8s are handling machines. Stock GTOs are not, though they've got monster engines!

There would be no way to rocket past anything on that ramp as the right hand lane is closed. There is a long merge lane at the bottom of the ramp though.

Actually I'm talking to Shine about removing the center panel, converting my Magnaflow exhaust to a single center-exit, and building two carbon fiber splitter tunnels for either side. I saw something similar on a Lotus Elise (though they use a dual-tip exhaust). I don't want "rice" though... just something lighter and functional.

I DID... I still see a too-high nose for those springs. My RX-8 had the same look with I first installed my Eibach springs. I had to drive to my local friendly body shop and use their drive-on lift so I could loosen and retighten all my fittings.

BTW-I like looking at YOUR avatar though! :D

If anyone wants to check out www.urbanracer.com, a photo of my RX-8, the JRX Rotary RX-8, and the Tech-2 Motorsports RX-7 (with the 1JZ VVTI turbo Altezza motor in it) all made the coverage online. A couple thousand cars, and the two red RX-8s end up in their photos! WoooooHoooooo! :D

I'm easily amused it seems...

Guys, it's really not all that fancy. I'm just making tasteful mods with an eye towards weight-savings wherever possible. No CF trim in the interior. No CF B-pillars or eyelids. No CF in the engine bay. No fancy cold air intake.

At least I will soon have my Fidanza clutch/flywheel installed, and start playing with the Cobb AccessPort tuning. After that, I'm probably done, and will just keep driving the wheels off of it.

The urbanracer.com coverage was nice. They called me out of the blue to ask for some details, but I've got a major magazine article in the works so I couldn't participate in the article online. I had to pass... bummer.
