questions about rx8

hey, I have recently looked into purchasing an rx8 6speed and have a few quick questions about it. I currently have a 2003 volkswagen gti anniversary edition which has a 1.8 turbo charged engine and 6 speed transmission. its rated at 180 hp and 175 torque. I have read about the rx8's and hear they have very low torque. I also hear that because of the rotary engine more horsepower is lost when its brought to the wheels, more than normal cars. I guess my question is do any of you think i will be dissappointed with the cars speed and acceleration. I know that the handling and styling are all amazing but not sure of how the power and accel would compare to the vechicle i have now. my gti does 0-60 in 6.5 and quarter mile in 15.3-15.8. I appreciate the help.

the 8 is a quicker car but its not a gragster...its more of a drivers car and will outhandle most in its class and some in higher classes.....if you like the car then go for it...and its not all about the torque because the 8 is allot lighter than the gti....also has allot more rpm to play with....test drive it and find out for yourself....in comparison i dont believe you will be disappointed

Definitely take the test drive. You'll gain a little acceleration, but 0-60 is very launch dependant in the 8, and a tougher launch than most. The drive will blow you away for sure!

The 8 is a bit more "classy" than the gti. And it looks a lot better both interior and exterior. As far as the speed it does have a low torque, so you'll have to keep the engine reved high to feel anything. Personally you'll have to test drive it to find out
Also i think this thread needs to be move to the "discussion".

About power being lost to the wheels due to the rotary engine, I don't think that has anything to do with the rotary engine. It should have the same loss whether it's a normal engine or rotary engine.

I have no idea if what I said is true, but I am positive someone here knows for sure. Can anyone verify please?

Oh and one question, any reason as to why you decided to post this in the multimedia section?

A good launch should get 0-60 at 6.0sec +/-, the quartermile should be about 14.5 at about 95mph. The numbers will surely trump the VW gti and you'll be pleased with the handling. You don't know how fast you can take corners until you've done it in this car.

The power loss between the engine and wheels should not depend on the engine. The engine loss does and I guess, it is higher for rotary than for piston engine (rotatires produce more heat, more power is lost). I do not have any numbers to back it up though. The transmission loss depends mostly on whether the car is FWD, RWD, or AWD. FWD has the smallest loss, whereas AWD has the highest.
