Yeah that's the so-called "Supra 7", which is basically an FD with the Supra's 2jz-dte engine. The tall I-6 doesn't even fit, as evidenced by that... um... hood. IMO, using an LS1 or even LT1 makes much more sense, since they actually fit, plus the LS1 is lighter (not sure how heavy the LT1 is).

Why ruin an RX-7 by putting in a piston engine? The thing looks pathetic. Like breeding a race horse with a donkey just to see if it will work. -- you just end up with a FAST A$$

Not to mention the weight added by the hood, side skirts, etc...

The hood is also one of the ugliest I have ever seen on a 7 IMHO.

There's a reason it's light.. they took half the utility stuff out of the car. Air conditioning, heater, etc... all that stuff is gone, this is a pure race car which is neat

But I need a car that can be quick, look elegant and sporty, handle well, and have my amenities

i assume you're correct, and would agree... but "import" tuners are just rabidly anti-muscle... i must admit that i'm not a big fan of the pushrod, but the 2JZ-DTE block was kinda not-the-best, IMvuHO... i'd rather have seen that with an RB26-DETT derived motor in it... :P i don't care if it's bigger (which i don't think it is), i just think it's a cooler motor

I'd take an RB over just about anything, but the 2JZ commands some serious respect.

A V8 RX-7 will blow the doors off an Inline-6 RX-7.

A 3rd gen RX-7 with a Chevy LT1 V8:

It depends, if you're talking about cast iron block I-6 vs aluminum block V-8 (like LS1, etc), the I-6 will probably be able to make it up the amount of boost it can handle. Although I would personally rather have the V-8, seeing as how it actually fits in the engine bay.

you really seem hell-bent on those v8 engines...
i understand that you like v8 engines, but you can't say that it is hands down a performance upgrade. maybe you don't know how ridiculously, unbelievably fast evos are in japan... they even beat r34s on the track, and they sure as hell aren't v8...

Hey, there's a lot of fun and inginuity that goes into such an extreme mod. I, for a while, had a 1972 Super Beetle with a mid-engine 1969 'vette L36 427.... Wasn't exactly street legal, but damn fun on the track! (after some SERIOUS aerodynamics mods to keep it on the ground.) And talk about an eye turner when you fire that thing up!

i can understand major engine transitions from piston car into other piston cars...but would you seriously want to rip out the rotary engine, and put in an engine that barely fits?...i mean you can forget about that 50/50 weight distribution...RX-7's are a different breed of cars..nothing else was made like them
