You live over there in Iceland? No kidding...
So, it does okay, but a 12.83 second quarter isn't exactly "fast".
That GT500 Cobra next to it n the video beat it by several lengths, and I bet it was stock.
Are the guys that built the LS1 RX8 going to design a kit? Do you know anything more about it? Pics?

If this Kit comes out it will be interesting to see how easily they ca getthe LSx swapped 8s into the 11s.

Super Low & Super Slow

If there isn't a kit out by the end of the year, I'll be doing the swap on my own. I'm tired of a fast looking car that is slow.
And screw putting in a stock LS1. LS1 with a nice valvetrain, good size bumpstick, and full 3" or 3.5" exhaust and some tuning, and you've got a car in the low 11s, high 10s.

You gotta understand thats REALLY FAST for an RX8, it knocks off about 2 seconds off the average RX8s run, and 2 seconds in the 1320 is a very noticeable diff.

A local customer of mine has a 1976 Datsun 280Z with an LS1/T56 engine swap with some bolt on modifications. (basic block and heads are stock)
He makes just over 400whp and almost the same for torque, a couple weekends ago he ran consistant 11.6's in the 1/4 mile trapping 121MPH.
Daily driven to work everyday and on 91 octane pump gas. Also gets 30mpg

Well with the 6 speed transmission and a 3.90:1 gear ratio in the differential, he cruises on the Hwy at 60mph while the engine only revs at 2200rpm. (somewhere around there)
Your not using 400whp all the time.
But let me tell you.....when he takes the car to lapping days, it drinks the fuel, probably no worse than a turbocharged Rotary would though.

Oldest trick in the book. A big V8 lugging around at super low RPMs will return rather good MPGs since it only has to be barely above idle to comfortable cruise the car. Hence why a 2000 Si for example will get better fuel economy in the city but on the highway at say 90mph ill be under 3k rpm while his short gears will be over 5000rpm and playing with Vtec

I mean im sure many many companies have the capability, just look at the all the engine swap kits available for the RX7, and maybe when they see how many people would be willing to buy such a kit they will actually look into producing one.
This can aslo include people who do not own RX8s, recently i have seen many high mileage RX8s for 6k or less, and blown motor or no motor ones for under 5k, is the kit was priced realistically this could become a very viable option for people who want to build a badass LSx powered car or just for people who dont want the 8 because of its speed.

If it was affordable, I'd probably do a swap at some point. I love the rotory, but grew up with small blocks in the garage. From a couple of posts up, gas mileage is great on an lsx power car if you can keep your foot off the right pedal. Hell my dad's 69 Vette has gotten 30 on the highway but usually gets 25 or so. It's a mildly tuned 350 with a 4 speed. It's all in the gearing. Pretty impressive for a 30 year old car. I'll be sad when i go home in a couple weeks and get less.

IDK if any of you guys know about this, but Hinsonsupercars is working on a LS1 RX8 kit to sell. Time will tell if it really happens, but if anyone can do it, they can.
