Rule #1 for amateur video (now class, please pay attention):

When you are recording, and something happens which is likely to be the most interesting, or only interesting part of your video, be sure to violently shake the camera so that nothing will be seen.

Sorry, shaking amateur videos are my pet peeve.

Yeah, he did'nt use his e-brake. Like I said he hit the breaks by accident or his a slick spot. I hit an oil slick once when down shifting an nearly lost it into a light post on an autox course once.

It wasn't the e-brake or the brakes that he hit.

The mistake was when he was in 3rd gear, he was switching to the 4th. and by accident it went into 2nd. Which created his wheels to spin at 90mph and he lost control.

^^^^ close, but that would cause the wheels to spin at a slower rate then the car is traveling, so in a sence that would make the tires slide rather then spin.... but yeah that would cause the car to come around if it were not caught in time.

I have draged several times. I must say it is pretty hard to miss shift 3rd to 4th. that has got to be the easyest shift. I have purpously (in a past RX-7) droped from 3rd to 2nd at somewhat high revs (got to leave room for the gear drop) to get a "compression skid" its fun, but not safe. and like I said, you would have to almost purpously do it. :/ strange.

even if it were accidental you would think he would have caught on when the revs didnt drop.... I duno, still a shitty driver either way.

Yeah, when I lost control it was because I downshifted at too high of a speed so I think that and the oil on the track made me lose it. It's amazing what a little oil can do. It's sucks because at our track they take forever to clean it up.

There is a vid somewhere with a guy in a Ferrari losing it at the launch and hitting the retaining wall. Now that is ouch.

I'd love to try it. That racing beat flash is gotta be worth something on the drag strip...

yes, you will see it there. very little on the auto x.

also what little the exhaust gives will show on the strip. I will have a slight disadvantage to you. you can barrow my slicks if you like. that way all three of us are running on the same platform.

Funny most fo the guys at our strip with basic bolt-ons run slower times than the stockers. I have beaten a guy with full mazdaspeed goodies. He usually runs low 15's. I would like to drive his car to if it is driver error.

yeah that might be a good idea. also bear in mind the intake, exhaust, gives very little. suspenssion will do almost nothing on the strip. (at least not the mazdaspeed stuff).

pulleys, flywheel, flash, tires, light wheels, these are things that will show the most on the strip.

What times are you running red?

Cesar, I thought of another huge dissadvantage I have over you. I have some severe camber on my car for the auto x. this will cause me to only use a small part of the tire. you are gone kill me on the line. (in fact you should beat me in every aspect of the race)

i'd wager he missed the 4th gear shift and locked up the rear tires... which also means the car isn't nearly as fast as it was looking and the STi was probably leaving off the gas some because he would only be trapping in the mid 90's shifting into 4th at the finish line

speeddemon32, 14.8@92MPH. I am now running consistant 14.8's but I am on stock bridgstones. They are about done so I will be replacing them this week or next when I get around to it. I am confident that some good BFG KD or TR-1's should get me a couple tenths. But the stockers have been great for me in autx and drag so I don't agree with everyone else who hates them. The first night I went out I was running faster times than the rest of the RX8's (and ahem, a not to be mention member with all the MS goodies ) and many just said I had a good motor. Well, my motor was replaced through the recall and I am now back to a 14.8 after many low 15.2-15.4 runs. I couldn't believe I still got a 14.8 on these tires. I also just purchased the ZEX wet kit so now I can spank some Z's!

Sweet! those are respectable times. I ran a 15.002 @ 92MPH in my n/a second gen RX-7 back when I had it.

I draged the RX-8 once when I first got it. man I couldent get the tires to hook what so ever. the tires spun and spun and spun. (I only tried 3 times)

My best was something like a 16.0xx obviously those numbers mean nothing as the car never hooked, but man, I couldent get over it. I always wanted to go back and try again. try launching at lower RPMs. my first run was at like 8k second run was like 7k and third run was like 5.5k even at 5 1/2 the tires spun like crazy!

Those were the stock Dunlops.

looking forward to trying again. I think I will bring the slicks out this time though. bad thing is that I have a somewhat severe auto x setup (-2 +) degrees camber. so I will only be running down the inside of that slick. got a 9.5" tire that I will only be using 2" of.

curiouse how much the Zex gets you!

Maybe he hit some oil. I can't figure how he'd lose control of such a balanced car that far down the stretch.
