Hi there all
Could you guys please help me. I have been noticing that the RX8's performance is all what it is said to be. I was just wondering if someone could please shed some light on what the RX8's performance compares to like the BMW m3 and Subaru's and other vehicles in it's class and can we do something to make our RX8's performance better and what could we change and how much HP will that push us up to.
Could you guys please help with this one. Please !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks and kind regards

Well...for starters, see the attached image.
As for a direct answer...
On a track, as proven by the stig on TopGear (you can do a search for TopGear and Rx-8), the RX-8 is:
- exactly equal to the BMW M3
- exactly equal to the Nissan 300Z
- not much competition to the Subaru STI
- lunch for the Mitsu Evo8
Hope that answers your questions

i see you felt the need to start this thread up again, since your other one was deleted.
Do a search, and stop with the whining threads. Jeez, if you didn't know about the speed of the RX8 before you bought it, you deserve to be spanked by all your fellow street racers.

Not wanting to be too harsh, but from your previous (deleted) thread - the problem isn't the car, but the driver. Not everybody instinctively knows how to drive a car to it's maximum performance. By far the best go-fast investment anyone can make, especially a young, inexperienced driver, is to go to a performance driving school. It makes YOU faster, which then makes every car you drive faster. More importantly, it makes YOU safer, since you will learn what it's like to handle a car as it approaches and exceeds the limits of it's performance envelope.
After you've attended a performance driving school - go again, and again, and then go to track days to practice handling your car at the limits. Also remember that it's incredibly dangerous and stupid to try to approach the limits of a vehicle on public roads, where road and traffic conditions are not controlled and there are no margins for error.
Regards,
Gordon

Ummm, there is an Aftermarket Performance section in this forum. You'd have better results if you read through that section. (And that's probably a better section to post this kind of message.)

I'm with Gordon here.
The weakest part of the system is usually the driver, that's because the car was designed, built and tested by professional engineers and according to rigid industry standards, while the driver more often than not is a person who would fail most basic tests, not to speak of being able to drive (securely ...) near the limit determined by car, track, traffic and weather.
Shawn, your question goes into the wrong direction. The performance of a car is not only determined by HP and torque, and comparing the RX-8 with the M3 in numbers is futile. Get the M3 if you like its numbers (including its price tag). But in case you do, don't look at the numbers of a Porsche Turbo.
The RX-8 is a high performance car, period. The RX-8 can outrun many stronger cars, because its handling is superior and its rev range is a killer. But it only performs truly great if the driver is able to keep the car on the road and an eye on the revs and stay relaxed in difficult driving situations. I'm not a near perfect driver myself, but even motorcycles let me pass voluntary on mountain roads in Italy. To get the best out of your RX-8, you should use its strengths, not complain about its weaknesses (which are few and only noticeable if compared to other high performance cars).
And if you simply want to outrun bigger BMWs on normal roads, that's easy, redline your RX-8 and don't switch to sixth gear at all - this method is 10000 miles autobahn-tested. But keep in mind that an accident at top speed basically has an impact similar to a plane crash.
Edit: Wrong forum BTW.
