Ok, someone please clue me in as to what is meant by "A-spec". If I had to guess, that would be similar to "J-spec" which (from what I was told by a friend who is stationed in okinawa) is the japanese equivalent to the term JDM. Thus, "A-spec" would be USDM? But that can't be, because I would think that there'd be no reason for an 8 to pull such a large lead on the S2k...
Perhaps there was something explained that I missed since I don't speak japanese... I thought I may have heard the 8's driver saying something about the brakes, which coulda been something pertaining to a lack of brake fade? Perhaps that could be the reason for the s2k to have fallen so far behind...
Anyway, the A-spec thing...?

I looked it up. It appears that the "A-SPEC" rx-8 consists of a body kit (which weighs more than stock), 18in Mazdaspeed MS-01Mag wheels, and sways/coilovers. So it's no faster than the standard 6MT RX-8. I think mazda does a disservice to the car by producing "mazdaspeed" versions that have the same hp as stock.
