I've never seen vortex generators on an rx8 before, not too sure about that. I think it breaks up the smooth curves too much. Functional or not they just look a little out of place on an rx8. I guess you can take the man out of the Suby, but you can't take the Suby out of the man, lol. Anyway I like the WRX spoiler, but if it were me I'd loose the lip spoiler and one of the third brake lights.

Fins are vortex generators, like on the lancer evo 9 and 10. fyi they are not crooked or unevenly spaced, they are all measured exactly and they are angled for airflow over the car! they create a smooth and increased airflow over the car to increase downforce in conjunction with the spoiler! And it works, stability over 100 mph is grately increased.
The spoiler is from a 98 jap import WRX.
Thanks for comments, its interesting to see all the points of view!!!
Different strokes for different folks!! lol

Complete BS, first off vortex generators are used to trip the "boundary layer" concept which will un smooth the air(math term, doesn't really exist.) Second, having them angeled will not do a thing to the momentum of the incoming air. THIRD the spoiler is in no way designed height/width/length wise to even see the disturbances generated by the fins, if they even made any to begin with. Fourth the aero properties of the car (which isn't that aero to begin with) negate any possible changes you can add. Ask speedsource why do don't have them on there car which has a proper spoiler to see any effects from them. also ask them about there wind tunnel testing.
My cousin is an aerodynamisist for a formular 1 team. so yeh i have had some expert help.
Yes i have a degree in aero engineering.

I actually think the spoiler looks great, it really does flow with the lines of the car. When you first stated scooby spoiler in the title I was expecting the stack spoiler from the 2003 to 2006 wrx which probably wouldn't match at all. But yours looks almost stock, get it painted and clear coated and i think it'll look great.

Thanks for the comments one and all. Like the manaro spoiler looks good!!!

There is a kid around here in a old Ford Probe with double decker spoiler and vortex generators. I guess I should have not laughed at him because he must have talked to your cousin.
PS the RX-8 is planted to the ground like glue at +100 speeds already. Any effect you are feeling is a placebo.
PPS I do like the WRX type spoiler, just not the fins.

spoiler actually fits the car pretty well. i personally would not have installed the fins on the roof because i think they look out of place and i dont drive over 100mph often enough to need those..but function over form is a statement i truely understand.

here is an idea for the 3rd brake like fiasco..... tap the original 3rd brake light to the parking lights and debadge the trunk.... so now you would have the "RX-8" glowing on with the parking lights.

I agree with some of the posters about filling the brake light on the trunk lid. Personally I would get rid of the lip spoiler and just keep the wing, but if you like it then by all means. Also I think it would look better if the wing was painted to match the body color.

Verbatim from Wikipedia:
Vortex generators are likely to be found on the external surfaces of vehicles where flow separation is a potential problem because vortex generators delay flow separation.
Having them angled is how they generate vortices. Look at any picture of VGs on airplane wings and you'll see that they're set at an angle to the incoming air.
Again, verbatim from Wikipedia (with citation):
Vortex generators are positioned in such a way that they have an angle of attack with respect to the local airflow.[1]
What does that say about our education system?
I haven't personally tested VG's on the 8 (yet), but the internet-available testing done on a multitude of cars (including the video above) all points to them being effective in at least keeping the boundary layer attached to the rear window. Some of the tests, including the HybridZ guys (who rented a wind tunnel), Mitusbishi, and AutoSpeed also report decreased drag with VGs, and some of those tests also indicate decreased lift and improved stability. In addition, none of the tests I've seen show any harmful effects from them. They may not help the 8, we won't know until someone does a scientific test of them, but the theory is certainly sound.
