seafoam video

Well I did the carbon cleaning on my 8 today and here is the video of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yekIvV2VJTo

Sorry my camera battery died but I let the car just idle for like 7min after this and it continued to smoke. I noticed a HUGE difference right away in how the car runs.

Great point. The nipples. I let it soak for about 80min.

Yeah, I wanna do that to mine. Someone told me you couldn't use seafoam on a turbocharged car.... is that true?

That's totally true! Which is why I didn't make a seafoam video of my turbo rx-8 and post it on youtube. But, if I did, it would look a lot like this:

Very good DIY. only difference is I work at jiffy lube pulled the car in the bay and went underneath my car to unhook the eccentric shaft position sensor. If you can crawl under the front of your 8 you can reach it that way too.

too slow.

mysql did you actually use seafoam or the mazda stuff? Did you also do it through the nipples? How much difference did you notice?

seafoam. I took out the spark plugs and poured it right in. Then turned the engine over, and repeated. Once I was sure it was all over, I let it sit for a few hours.

No noticeable change in the car. But when my engine was pulled out and disassembled, you can see it was in great shape to begin with. It's all about diminishing returns.

Nice job. I want to do this but not at my house! How much does it smell and how long does the car smoke?

After about 90sec I just let the car idle and it continued to smoke for 5min till warm. while idleing the car smoke a good amount. Once warm i revved to 6k about 20 or 25 times like in the instructions. After that it pretty much stopped. blah blah blah ramble ramble.

Long story short about 8-11min. The shucks about a few hundred yards away from my work called and asked if we set our dumpster on fire.

EDIT: the smell wasn't too bad but I am used to doing fuel injection cleanings at my work. I would just close all you windows in your house and should be no problem. Inside my car didn't smell either.

the directions say to rev the engine to 1.5 rpms and hold it there until the majority of the smoke dissipates then rev to 6k 20 times. yea so I wouldn't let it naturally idle.

P.S. you don't actually need a second person there if you use the seafoam method.

Mine kept wanting to die for about the first 30 sec so I had to rev it. after that I just let it idle. And you should wait till It warms up before you do the 6.5k revs.

i poured like a fourth of an alluminum soda can in each port. Through the vaccum nipples. couldnt really measure and couldnt wait any longer.... so would it hurt to do it again with measuring 2 oz each and waiting over 2 hours?

I didn't measure either. I just filled a cup and cranked it for 13 sec (the DIY said 10-15sec) and let it suck. I dont think it would hurt it but don't quote me.

ok so i did it again today, just left the hose in the whole bottle and cranked for 13 seconds two times each rotor. Worked great, smoked for about 25 minutes... crazy. I actually did two rx8's at one time lol. It was insane...
