SLK, TT or RX8
Hi there guys and gals
I just wanted to tell you guys the story about how I came to drive a MAZDA RX8.
It all started with a fascination of the Mercedes SLK. A two-door sports coupe with a solid hard top roof that could fold down in +- 20 seconds, as we all know. I had my finance and everything ready and I actually ordered a 2003 SLK. It just so happened that my dealer some how informed me about the new SLK arriving in June 2004 so I decided to wait on that one. I really couldn't wait for June 2004 and I was really excited. I could have bought the top of the range but because my job is only contract I decided not to do this. So I would have only have purchased the SLK 200.
I am a people’s person and I live in a smallish town in South Africa. I always take some of my friends with me on holiday that can't afford to get away. So after many days of troubling myself with the problem of space in the SLK, I was slightly put off. My girlfriend also had a big say in the matter and she Loved the SLK. There are very few cars that she really likes.
We then started discussing the Audi TT. A better and more powerful engine with four-wheel drive and a galvanized body and chasey and place for 2+2(well not quite) but it did have the extra space.
My girlfriend didn't like the TT that much but she said it would be her second choice if any. We took them all for test drives and I really enjoyed the vehicle for it's extra power above the SLK.
Well, we were hooked on TT.
A while later we went on holiday to Johannesburg and I stumbled across the Mazda RX8. The next day I took my girlfriend to see the vehicle and she fell in love with it. I was so impressed with it. More power than the SLK + TT, more space and even a better price.
I arranged for a test drive at my local dealer and the car sold itself. My girlfriend, after the test drive asked me every thirty minutes when are we signing.
I was a bit skeptical about the Rotary engine but the next day I ordered Our RX8 and it has brought us so much pleasure.
Thanks Mazda for designing a car to suit my needs

LOL all vERY good cars. very very good cars. but w/ that kind of money...i'd also spend it on the rx8 and then mod it. yeah the rx8 is very well equipped. practicality is awesome. speed isnt too shabby. looks are very cool. GOod choice. i think its fate. =]

Shawn... I had doubt about the rotary when I first knwo about the car. But once i learn more and more it is truely an unique engine. Innovative in design and yet had overcame problems in RX3 and RX7 regarding high fuel consumption and failure. It is now a livable normal aspirated engine with a UNIQUE quality of sound.
SLK -- I love as well -- but I only love the SLK AMG 55 that costs more than 3 times as much as the RX-8.
Sure it seat four comfortably and your girlfriend like it. Man! You should drive the car alone and enjoy yourself on the racing track!
Welcome once again

My mom has an SLK230 and it is not a drivers car--it is very nice; but when I drive it back to back with my RX8 it is no comparison. The 2005 SLK350 will be a very good performer though. 268HP 7spd auto 0-60 in 5.5sec; the SLK55 will be a C5 killer.
