Don't get me wrong, these pics are excellent and the car is pretty - I just don't get it why folks go apeshit about the 8 in white. There are several other color choices where I would kinda understand that - just not the appliance-white :p

Red. Couldn't be a nice rich glossy red, they had to spill a whole thing of glitter in it. Every time I see it up close I think "if I just had a buffer and enough compound, I could get all of that shiat out of the paint so that it doesn't look dirty".
Blue. Screams "spoiled 16-year-old-girl", or "cheap bass boat". I've seen that colour on too many riced-out Accords, which look like their paint job came from a Krylon spray can. EDIT: Now I remember where I've seen this colour before!!! Mid-80s Mitsubishi Starion/Dodge Conquest - http://www.t-racing.com/conquest_pics.htm
Green. Fine, if you're 60+, wear a tweed jacket with elbow patches and a button-brim hat. Also if the 8 were British, which it isn't.
Silver. Dull, non-glossy, boreing, looks like most of the Passats, Jettas and accords on the road. Seriously - there are more silver cars than white, from what I've noticed.
Gray. The stealth colour. As in, it looks so much like pavement that it doesn't have any appeal, and doesn't show off the lines of the car at all. You also never need to wash it, since it can't get any duller with dirt on it than it is to begin with.
Yellow. Awesome colour, glossy, nothing looks better on the 8. I'll get one. Oh, wait, I CAN'T - it's been discontinued.
Ooops, did I diss your colour? Feeling all outraged? Well.... y'all stop making 'appliance' and 'rental car' cracks about white. I just don't get it why people go apeshit about the 8 in [red/blue/green/silver/gray]. Some of us *like* white as a colour for any car.

But it is the truth... it looks so damn hot when it's cleaned and waxed, but it requires daily maintenance to stay that way. In winter, with snow & salt, it's a lost cause

The first time I looked at the car it was kind of cloudy and the color didn't seem all that special. But the next day the sun was out and it was awesome. It's one of those things you need to see in person to really appreciate. Its hard to capture the effect of the pearl in pictures. As far as the rims, I'm looking to get some 19 TE37's in white.
Black rims would make it look evil, gold would bling. Nothing wrong with the two, but white keeps it nice and clean. I actually think any color looks good on an RX-8. The only one I wouldn't get is the dark green just because it doesn't really stand out.

The original mazda kit looks the nicest....so aggressive, yet subtle...love everything about it...

white Lotus Esprit
white 911/930 (through ~1989, before it bloated up)
But some cars are best in another colour:
There's a particular rich, glossy red that Audi uses on the TT and A4 that I love. As much as I don't want a red car, I would take one of those in a heartbeat.
The NSX, and any Ferrari, are best in red. Also, the Renault Alpine A310.
There's a particular shade of blue that Toyota used for decades on the FJ40 & FJ55 Landcruisers which is, in my mind, inseperable. It would look horrible on anything else, and those old Landcruisers just *need* that blue. Same goes for that particular orangish-red on the original (British) Minis. It's iconic for that car, and wouldn't work at all anywhere else.

Hey - I know all those spots in your pix, Whitehot. My wife and I vacation on Kauai every year. The white looks great and would definitely have been in play for me if it had been available last year (this year?). Judging from your selection of photo locales, I'm guessing you're an eastsider? Saw two 8s in Princeville last May, but no response from the forum. Tell these guys (and me too) about driving the 8 from Hanalei to Haena.

Smooth! Very nice pics! I love the white, and I'd get white rims too if I had your car. Did you ship your car over from Oahu? I was just over in Kauai a few months back, on the drive to Waimea Canyon I kept thinking damn I wish I was in my RX-8. Then I see your pretty white car over looking the canyon, lucky you!
