You'd sue in small claims court to get your deductible paid for by the party who messed up your ride. Also, your insurance premiums could possibly go up, so you could get compensation for that as well.
Why should cornholio pay out of pocket to get damage to his car repaired when he wasn't even in it, or in any way responsible for the damage? If the guy stopped to leave information, it'd be a different story; but this guy knew damn well he caused several hundred dollars worth of damage and rather then do the right thing, he tried to run away.
It's the silver rule. Do unto others what they would do unto you. If he tried to hit and run and failed, he should pay for every cent of the repairs.

Yes you could press charges, but sending him to jail doesn't get your repairs paid for. For something like this, I'd rather have my money rather then his *** in jail, and I don't think this kind of hit and run qualifies as the kind of hit and run they send you to jail for.

has nothing to do with American or not, he was trying to RUN. How responsible was that ?
People can sue McDonaldo's hot coffee being too *hot*.
of course the insurance wants to close this case asap. but if its close, that means it settled, so no sue.
but if its me, I will sue for sure.

The right thing to do is get a whole new panel (including the part of the roof) and install it. My old honda accord had the same sort of rear quarter panel design that ran up onto the roof. When it got hit in the rear quarter panel we had the entire panel replaced at a significant cost.
It's probably cheaper to hammer it out and bondo it. Less new paint to match too.

Push for the full replacement since it's being paid for by his insurance company. (He did have insurance, right?)
If the insurance company BSs you about that option, talk to a lawyer yourself. Don't assume your insurance company is going to work to get you the best option. They're out for themselves and their stakeholders, so once the other company is paying for repairs your insurance company won't bother spending money to ensure you get what's best.

Texas is a state that you can file for diminished value... although since there was previous damage, I'm not sure if you'll get it. But worth a shot. Are you going third party through the Ford's insurance? Glad you caught the Ahole.

Sorry to hear about your damage. I hate those F150's ... there are a ton of them here in Calgary and 75% of the time, the owner doesn't use the vehicle for hauling, etc ... instead they use it for commuting and groceries. My friend from Ontario came over to visit and he was amazed at the sheer number of pick up trucks used as a daily driver.
