Emissions? You would have had been taken off to the loony bin for even suggesting "emissions". There were few rules in the west as to what you could do to your car. If you wanted straight pipes (no muffler) then you had to have a bypass. Once you saw the sign "safe & sane" you could open your headers and the speed. Keep in mind that cars like ours did not exist but straight line Detroit Iron was just coming into it's own as far as speed went. For the most part foreign cars were English, French or the beginning of German (a very few Italian) and none of them were build well.
What happened? Well I think Stinky Twinkie fell down on the job as the keeper of the gene pool. Too many selfish people that thought they were special and could do what ever they wanted and even thumbing their collective noses at the unobtrusive laws of the time and the "socially responsible" mandating laws to cover what they saw as wrong.

Eventually the ratio of intelligence vs stupidity became > 70% and I said...awww screw this...I need a martini...
While on my martini break, I realized that eventually the problem will resolve itself...stupidity alone is not dangerous...but when stupidity is in a large group, the collective results are stupendously dangerous...
The stupids will kill most of themselves off eventually...take a majority of others with them...and then at least the pool will be technically cleaner from it...
Maybe then I'll pick the rest of them off and finally get to drain the pool...
I'm still waiting for my workman's comp check too...seriously WTF!

well, the guy was the one engaging the dyno, so I let him do his own thing, I do trust him though
MD automotive has a very good rep, and the guy has been working with Jackson racing for like 20 years, so the percetage of me destroying the car is much higher than him destroying it

Almost every dyno shop I've been to won't let you drive your own vehicle for 'liability purposes'.
