Taka vs JDM DC5 Type R - Sandown raceway

The car in front is my mate Stephen, and he is in a JDM DC5-R with Mugen ECU, intake, suspension and running RE55S in a SSR comp 17".

Mine... everyone knows I don't run it stock but it is still NA. (EDIT: oh I have the same semi slick as the Type R)

The clip is in DivX format. You can download the player or codec from divx.com. File is 20mb or so, but keep the link to this forum. I don't want the other forum to post the link since my site's bandwidth is limited. :p

Thanks in advance. And Enjoy.

Taka VS JDM DC5 Type R (note please use right click on your mouse and use "Save target as..." do not scream the video please )

I think I did miss a gear in this clip... all because of RB shifter (no of course not haha .. it is just me )

LOL Enjoy
Taka

Very nice video.

Did you mean the RP shifter? Or does RB stand for Racing Beat?

Was that an RSX Type S? Any mods on that? You should have easily pasted him in the corners! Did he have any mods? Were you switching early or something? I can tell your from somewhere else besides the US because of you being on the Right. You guys have less HP right?

It is a Jap import... so it has 162 kW (220ps) and brembo brakes. Very nice.

I think he has a lot of strut bar and sway bar too. Still on Brembo. He track his car at the other race track in Melbourne and clearly the fastest Type R in our state. :p

thought so...I just read the whole RP shifter thread and your video just increased my wanting of it. The way it looks when you shift makes it seem so effortless and precise.

so a type R IS faster than a 8 in straight line and in corner..........????
i still don't see why you can't past him in 2:22 ( in the clip ) ,maybe that's not a passing zone??? i think he brake too early , i know the apex is not even there yet but you could have past him in the corner. you missed one gear? where? Anyway, it must be a very fun experience, i wish i could go to track someday. very nice video and you did great!

Hahah.... I could have passed him down the backstraight by out breaking him. I don't think he is that much faster in the corner. Mind you, he does have Mugen suspension (adjustable) and I don't. But I will :p

I chose not to pass him because he may not know I am passing - I don't want to cause a friend to collide with me

When I was behind him I was doing 1'34s, but I am doing 1'31s when I was on my own.

I can also show you guys that I stuck behind the TWO black Porsche Carrreras ... they are doing bloody 1'36s"

I reckon the video clearly shows how the 8 outbrakes and handles what is a pretty highly modified type R, Brembos and all. What's the weight difference, taka?

The dc5 is no slouch in the corners, don't be surprise especially with upgraded suspension. But taka, is the dc5 faster in the straights? Or were you going easy? What was the dc5's best lap times? And also is the drivers skill bout the same?

I remember that particular 911 on the video is much faster than the other Porsches and the new Boxster too. The other Porsche drivers... particular the red turbo 944 (just ask ILIV48 and xatnep who was there) :p

Timbo the weight difference is (+/- 50kg due to my memeory fade :p):

DC5 - 1170kg. RX-8 1360kg. Plus Stephen is lighter than Taka by 30kg :p

You are testing my friendship with the Type R driver here :p LOL

DC5 is much faster on the straight. Because:
1. They have a much better gear ratio. I hate the 4th gear - you can tell it is when he pull me away, especially in the last few hundred meters when the peak power is critical.

2. He will kill me if I told everyone I was bored behind him. Short answer, I was not chasing hard. :p. Another answer 1.34 behind him 1.31.4 on my own

3. Best DC5R time. Well he did not timed himself so he does not know... or may not want to know :p

haha

4. Stephen (in the Type R) is a very experienced driver. We used to own a white DC2, much like brothers since we have the same first and last name (spooky I know :p). He always tells me and wants me to come to his track meets. I remember then he did a 1'32" with his DC2 (fully modded). So he will kill himself if his JDM DC5 did only 1'34" on semi slick :p. My other friend with a tuned DC5 (Australian spec and put out 121kW at the wheel) did a 1'33" in Potenza S02s.

great video TK! The key is decent sound...we can hear it...much more exciting!

Did you use Hymee's camera mount? The angle seems perfect and camera was quite steady.

No I used the Manrotto magic arm (light stand) No 143, which is borrowed from xatnep (Ozzie forum member). I can mount the camera by clamping to my rear strut bar, and the camera can be set JUST next to the head rest of the rear passenger (left) seat. Should have taken a picture :o

Only if I know how to set the exposure correctly. Then I will have the best pics.

One sort of advice re: filming. MUST BUY A WIDE ANGLE CONVERSION LENS. x0.6 or x0.5. I brought one off eBay and can bring from only see half of me and half of the rear mirror to this full view - A must!

so the Type R IS faster!
if I told my friend about this he would be shock, cuz I always think that the R is almost the same as the S here in the U.S. only 20ps in difference. and i could out run his rsx type s in straight line 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th with my stock 8. And don't even talk about corners, that thing won't turn, it'll understeer very easily. i'm amazed how the type R is doing on the track.

The Type R has an LSD that the Type S lacks, which makes a huge difference in understeer on a FWD car.

Do not confuse the JDM Type-R with the US spec RSX Type-S, they are very different animals.

Also at the track gear ratios play a big role in terms of where you're at the powerband. Like taka said its faster b/c of that.

Nice vid Taka and your car's performance in the corners reinforces my track experience ...that our slightly moded cars are more than a match for most cars moded or not in the twisties, but we just don't have the HP to fight the battle on the straights... but after every straight is yet another corner... where we can catch those guys once again.... even if we don't get ahead it's so much fun swoooping in from behind - cause they have to brake sooner, and corner slower than us :D while we sit back and watch how they struggle heehehehe Good job!

taka, in australia do they sell the itr/its or is it sold under acura rsx standard/type S?

also if they sell it under honda itr/its, how does the jdm itr differ from the aus itr?

and lastly, how hard is importation on JDM cars to australia?

tia,
StealthFox
