Thinking about doing this under my hood...
Thank God for photo shop. I am thinking seriously about doing this under my hood, just thought I would post it and get a few responses.

Looks great. A couple of those rotary oil and washer caps would set it off too.

I also have on order a red Mazda Speed grounding kit which should be here in a week or less.
Here is a pic of what it looks like right not for comparison.

I promise to take pics after I am through with it all. Going to start masking for painting tonight. The box will take a bit of time for the lid, have to find the materials and do a bit of measuring. I want to do a one piece so I will have to revisit how to heat acrylic sheeting up to bend it to the right size. I want to take a look at some different kind of heat shielding and box, quite possibly. My main concern is also show. I guess what I am most disapointed in is that there is a big gap where the intake box was and I am trying to fill this gap. It might be kind of over the top but if I could find a clear engine cover, I would most likely buy it. One shaped like the stock one but clear acrylic would be sharp, IMO.

Better Yet, molded lexan. I do like the color scheme, just enough, but not too much. I would leave the vent openings on the cover black or maybe TI Gray. Oops, sorry that's my color.

Yes, it is in the picture under the photo shopped clear cover. If you look at the original near the bottom of page 1, that is what it looks like now.
The K&N Typhoon CAI doesn't have a lid for the box (heat shield), is open on the sides and mounts in the original area that the OEM box mounted to. There is still a considerable amount of plastic in that area. I want to tear it down a bit and get a look at what is below it. The intake air vent coming from the front right behind the grille is located there. I want to see how it is designed and see if there is a way to make an improvement to the air supply for the K&N. As is, it is still going to get a bit of warm air from the engine bay. I'm considering using some thin insulation on the back and sides with maybe some kind of mylar reflecting capabilities to keep the heat out. Then again, in the winter I am concerned about getting some heat in. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
There have been reports about oil in the stock filter box. Mine had it too. I noticed there is a hose that connects to the oil filler tube that could cause oil to travel down this tube but, that would have to be sucked more so than run on it's own. Could this be a result of the OEM not getting enough air flow from it's other sources?
