Not sure is this is new or not but it had 12-25-05 date. Unfortunate result w/too little horsepower.. but a nice vid anyway.

Why wasn't the Elise was able to pass that S2000 towards the end? I guess the North America Elise must have more power than the ones over seas, because as far as I know, the Elise should have easily out muscled that S2000.

I wouldn't say these little races on Best Motoring are very accurate - they race in the rain half the time and the drivers often cheat and block each other.

I never knew that, I think the advans neovas help more than anything else.

the battle royal vid with the FEED rx8. won the touge 300 battle. it was awesome. he almost broke the sector time for the course with only 200hp!. it was underpowered yet, the handling was effortless, as they say. but yea. as they keep devolping the rx8 parts. its gonna be awesome.

usually the normal psychological effect is if your given a better car you will try harder then if you have a car with no shot of winning - compare the s2000 shifting and rx8 shifting and its fairly obvious that the driver efforts are not all equal

The top gear track is extremely technical with extremely short straightaways. Pretty much, that track is to test the handling of the car.
Tsukuba has a crazy long straight away which explains why the RX8 cant keep up.

I'm not too familiar with Tsukuba, but I have raced it in video games. It's a short technical track as far as I recall, with two short straights, the longest being maybe a quarter mile. I think it was originally designed for motorcycles. I don't know where this crazy long business is coming from.

i agree with a few members.. IMO the 8 is more an autoXer than a full out track car...on small tracks with little to no straights the 8 will shine.. like the custom top Gear track that was more technical to test balance and handling.. but with ACTUAL tracks the Rx-8 pretty much gets creamed because of the LACK OF POWER!!!!!!!!!! now if that car was turboed and had handling mods equivalent to the CSL ( a modified M3) ... then the race would be fun...
i wonder when TG tested the RX-8 and the M3 whether or not the track was wet on both occasions or dry??

RX4life I'd frame it a different way based more on driver skill.
With 'real' race car drivers, like these vids, and on longer tracks, the 8 will get beat, lacking power to sprint between corners, and being equaled by others driver's skill in braking & navigating corners. On shorter tracks, even w/skilled drivers it's closer to even the 8 can make up for many of its deficits. We just can't make mistakes or it's over.
With more average track drivers, who don't know how to really push 10/10s, the 8 will likely be in the top range on anytrack as it is much easier to brake late and corner 8-9/10th, and momentum being what it is, it's pretty hard for others to make up for bad corners / weak braking lost time w/sprinting on the straights. IOW many other cars take more skill to do their best vs. the 8, which has an easier time, even w/its limitations.
Perhaps we're like the bumlebee that shouldn't be able to fly but amazingly does ( I know they recently figured it out, but anyway).
