Two Die In Crash--Driver Survives
I edited article and removed names...
Three young men took a curve too fast early Sunday morning, hit a concrete utility pole and - after their Mazda RX-8 flipped and split apart, scattering car parts for 100 yards - only one is alive.
Rescue workers had to cut the driver, 21-year-old of West Palm Beach, from inside the mangled Mazda. They took him to Palms West Hospital; officials said he will recover.
Palm Beach County sheriff's investigators suspect alcohol played a role.
As the driver maneuvered a slight curve heading north along Jog Road just south of Okeechobee Boulevard west of West Palm Beach, he lost control of the car, officials said. It hit a curb and rolled before striking the pole shortly before 6:30 a.m.
As the back of the car tore apart from the front, a passenger from Royal Palm Beach was thrown, sheriff's investigators said.
He died in the roadway.
A second passenger from West Palm Beach, was partially ejected from the car. He was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center, where he died, officials said.
Reached by phone, a boy's father said he did not want to speak.
"At this moment, I don't even want to live," the father said.
Vehicle homicide investigators believe speed contributed to the accident, but sheriff's Sgt. John Churchill said the car hit at such an angle that the driver might not have been driving as fast as it appears.
A part of the car landed in the median, while most of the remainder, though ripped apart, lay alongside the right shoulder.
Onlookers at a nearby Hess gas station gathered along crime scene tape cordoning off car parts and lamented drag racing in the area.
Churchill said investigators did not know if other cars were involved in the crash. They hoped to find witnesses.
An ambulance pulled away from the scene shortly after 8:30 a.m., after the medical examiner's office took custody of one of the men's bodies.

It just goes to show that even our beloved 8's have their limits. Alot of people want to think them 'kill proof" but it should serve as a reminder that yes we are still driving a 3K lbs chunk of metal capable of getting really ugly when we aren't watching.

key part is the point about alcohol playing a factor. seems like 9/10 times when alcohol is involved, the drinker/driver survives and any passengers, innocent bystanders, and other vehicles involved are almost always killed. sad really
dont drink and drive.
dont drink and drive.

Even if he did nothing wrong and it ended up that way things happen like that everyday.
I don't really care about the curse of the silver RX-8's. It just happens that in a group photo of RX-8's the only silver one there wasn't reflecting any sunlight as though heaven had no love for it. I clicked this thread next while still thinking about the other one.
Yes, I'm bored at work.

Ive seen some nasty rx8 crashes online, but this is by far the worst Ive seen. The thing thats throwing me for a loop is the article says it may not have been a high speed accident. But c'mon, how else would you tear a freakin rx8 in half and flip it!

Footage of it is worse than the pictures.
Edit: The news says he hit a utility pole. My guess is that it was a telephone pole or a metal traffic signal pole. Light poles will actually fall down (they are made that way). Telephone poles are at least 3 1/2 feet in the ground and unless an 18 wheeler hits it or it is forever old its not budging. Metal signal poles are just as bad.
No car can take an impact like that. My friend a couple years ago delivered pizzas and was hit by a drunk driver. Pushed him into a telephone pole at 40mph and it sliced his car almost completely in half.
