Non of the cars are the "REAL" car if you know what I mean. They are all tube frames. The Rx8 uses the same airodynamics but thats it. The motor is a NA 3 Rotor putting down approx. 419 wHP (quote from SpeedSource guys in the pits during last years race).

Anyways, I was actually there and watched the race literally 20 feet from the cars on the track!!!

I remember someone saying that the most action was in the last 7 minutes and you are correct. In the end the Porshe was only like 2 secounds behind the Rx8 and it was a major battle for like the last 5 laps or so. Sometimes the Porshe would get super close then the following lap he would be way back. I believe the Rx8 was leading for better part of the race but a prototype car got in the Rx8's way one time and the Porshe capitalized on it (this happened close to the end of the race).

I need to talk to Swoope cause he brought his camera and may have better pics than I as I took them on my camera phone. Either way I will post them this week.

KICK *** RACE!

OWNED. That's just effing great. How long is the race? I want to know when the end is so I can watch the good stuff. I have lots of studying for an exam the next day, so I can't watch the whole thing.

Actually, the porsches are the standard unibody production frame. They're even built on the standard 911 production line. That's why the porsche teams bitched about the RX8 and pontiacs as they are both dedicated tube-frame racecars whereas the porsches are modded street cars.

With that being said, the RX8 still kicks major ***!

I don't remember saying that the Porsche wasn't a tube frame car. I actually don't know if it is or isn't. In Grand Am Rolex GT I'm not that familiar with the cars' construction, but in Grand Am Koni Challenge (formerly Grand Am Cup), I can tell you that the GS and ST cars are not tube frame, and they closer resemble production cars.

I did quick research on GT cars at Wikipedia.

For 2005, the Grand Touring (GT) and Super Grand Sport (SGS) classes were consolidated into a single GT class, which features high-tech sports car models approved by Grand-Am like the Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Ferrari 360 Modena, and BMW M3. However, new rules introduced in 2005, commonly referred to as Prep2, allow for the introduction of tube-frame, purpose-built cars into the class. The first examples of these are Pontiac GTOs campaigned by Horizon Motorsports and The Racer's Group and 3-Rotor Mazda RX-8s campaigned by Speedsource.

Maybe the Porsche was not tube frame? Hmmm.

their engines are sealed by porsche from the factory. They dont have to be modded (2007 GA version), they're cars designed by porsche to compete specifically in the series, its got rollcage, tuned engine, racing brakes, etc etc from the factory, so these cars are 100% factory backed.

These are 911 GT3 "CUP" cars, very different from the road going 911 GT3.

I wouldnt say its unfair, GA tries hard to balance all the cars. Although the RX-8 now won two in a row, it was a result of some very hard work from speedsource. The cars battled until the end, so i'd say they are pretty balanced, the farnbacher loles that got passed in the video were on worn tires, thats why it was passed easily by the 3-rotor. The porsches are able to turn a lot faster laps than the 8 on fresh rubber.

if they keep the gt class only to unibody cars it would limit the field only to a hand full of car makes like porche, ferrari, lamborghini and maybe corvette, the other unibodys in the series are not doing very good, the thing is that porche has 15 years of dominance in this class without much challenge, now they have to get up to the competition or move to another series

if they want to be lightter they can use a smaller engine, most international racing bodyes see the 20b as a 3000cc engine and I think GA does too

Wow, what are the downsides to the three rotor? I wonder why it was never used in place of the Renesis or the other 13b's. Is it not streetable at that power level?

A 20B will never be street legal. At least the way I'd have it
