Thumbs up VIDEO: a perfect TakeOff with MazdaSpeed Exhaust & Intake Sound by CrazySte

HI EVERYBODY,
the other day, i decided to record a couple of Videos of me running with my RX-8, so, i said... let's give the grand opening to my new Kumho tires, so, i stopped at a red stop light, i grabbed my camera, and i self recorded some clips, the firs one, obviously, si a take off... from 0 to 90Mph:

Well, i'm sorry if the images are a little bit bouncy, but i was holding the camera while driving, and, it's not that comfortable to hold the camcorder and shift gears, but, i hope you liked it anyway.
I also wanted to test the capability of the Wankel in second gear, so, i putted the second gear and, from standing there, i released the throttole , then, when it was at the minimum rpm stable, a stept on the accellerator, and this is the result:

Well, as you can hear, this is the sound of the MazdaSpeed Sport CatBack Dual Exhaust, plus, the MazdaSpeed Sport Cold Air Intake... it sounds great, i love it.
I Did also some other clips at higher speed, but there are some problem with the posting today, so, i will post them in the next days.
Home you likes theese first two.

I just klocked it! 0-60 mph in 7.5s could be better with the mods you have. Anyway cool video!

HI Razz,
you know what?
You are right, the Cold Air Intake makes more noise than the Exhaust, but, bhelive me, there is a heck of a difference.
With the only intake, the Car is noisy only when you are pushing the pedal to metal, instead, with the exhaust the sound increases progressivly with the increase of the rpm's, but, the best thing is that when you are cruising ad Highway at costant speed, the noise reduces a lot, close to nothing if you are between 4000 and 5000rpm, ant that's perfect because like that you can even travel a little bit with this car, but at the same time have a very good sound.

HI Lasse,
i know, the tires where brand new, just 3 mile on them, and at the take off the slipped just a bit, but then, they where perfect, the thing that influenced the most was that i was going a little uphill, nothing particular, but always something.
I did another video, right before changing the tires, and, i slipped not only at the take off but also between first and second gear, and a little jump with the third... but, it's not bad, Mazda declares 6.4 Sec for the 0 to 60, thinking that it was kind of cold around here and the tires where new... i don't think that i could have done much better than that on that road.
I will post the other video, wich was done on a flat road... just let me wait until they fix the problems with the site... i have some very very nice clips to post

that was like a 16 or 17 second quarter mile there ...feather the throttle a little more and launch a little higher you'll be good to go...allthough your tranny won't

Why do you shift so high? Power peaks at 8500, anything over that is just more noise.

If you ever saw a chart of acceleration in gears you would not say that . There is still plenty of power after 8500 to get the best out of each gear.

Heh, 2 days ago I was reading through a thread and all they were talking about was where the power peaks and everyone was saying 8500. I vaguely remember it. I think it was one where some guy asked how much hp was the engine making at 7500 rpm or something.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe air is the limiting factor in peak power not fuel. He has a CAI + exhaust, so logically power past 8500 rpm would be increased if not increasing on his car. It certainly is not engine design/friction. If fed properly a rotary will keep making more power until it asplodes or the world starts spinning backwards.

Plus you have to look at power at 9500 vs 7500. I believe the fall off is less severe than the climb........And you get to shift later.

hey crazy ,
just did an interesting comparison - put your vid & mine on the same screen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzlvSC_8N-Y

If you start yours approx. 2 seconds after the start of mine you will get them at the same point (although I was not doing a drag start)
Note mine is quite a bit quicker through 1st & 2nd then in third about the same but check my speedo - 163 km/hr (101 mph) . I have higher ratio 3rd gear .

Doing this will demonstrate the benifit of a lightweight flywheel & piggyback ems if anyone is interested.

Please pardon my stupidity here but could anyone link to which exhaust you're currently running?

From what i see on the mazdaspeed site there are two aftermarket exhausts available and im not sure which one is better. What exactly is the difference?

I seem to recall reading on this site that the Mazdaspeed exhaust does nothing but change the sound. If you're going to replace the exhaust why not get something that is actually going to get you some sort of performance gain?

Brettus is right. If you shift at power peak, you're not getting the best acceleration... usually. Transmission designers consider many things (more than I can possibly imagine) and one of them is to match up the gear ratios to provide the broadest powerband without losing the car's character. Unless the power curve abruptly drops after peaking, it usually doesn't make sense to shift at peak.

Think of it this way. If you shift at peak, your next gear will usually be in a less than ideal position in the powerband.

Transmission is one of the things amateur tuners neglect. When you boost your engine power, ideally you should change your gear ratios also to take advantage of that power. I see guys making 300+ HPs and effectively convert their vehicles from a 6 speed into a 5 speed because they can't use their first gear (spin out) and their entire power spectrum is all screwed up.

umm...there isn't one that gains anymore than 3-4 HP. Unless you start to get illegal and emmisions non-compliant.

Assume you are talking about my vid - I can't hear the noise you are talking about . I do get the 'pop' between gearchanges due to having no cat .
