Totally agree with those comments. Especially about taking performance driving courses. There are several solutions to the problem described in the videos.

1 I'd like to see more cars with blue tooth to handle hands free cell phone communication... because you know people (morons) will do this anyways

2 I'm promoting local driving courses in our British Columbia club. They are hands down the best method for learning the cars potential, and what you have to work with when you are in trouble.

3 This video. Attitude is everything. If you change someones attitude about driving, you change their probabilities of an accident. "Someone" starts driving for other people. For example, one of us... after watching this video... takes the stand that every other driver is a moron, and at any moment they morons WILL risk your life out of stupidity. You can't catch a wary driver by surprise... you can only justify their suspicions. So yes, this video has it's place... especially if it's seen by one of those "other" non-rx8 drivers who "determined to take your respect". You know who I'm talking about! these guys are everywhere! Where in the life of a moron did they learn that respect isn't given, it's taken? I think Russell Peter's said it best:

That's where I stand on the subject. In fact, I would suggest taking that video link and sending it to everyone you know. I've already done this. Where I live, there is plenty of room for "demoralizing reinforcement" amongst the average impatient drivers here.

I am not taking the time to read all the previous pages so with that said...

I agree and disagree with much that was said. I don't think what was shown in the video had anything to do with speed. I think the video was made to blame speed for the accidents shown in the video. I think this is there effort to dum the issue down or find the cheapest solution to a problem.

The real issue is not speeding and this video proves my opinion...

The first incident dealt with some moron checking out a girl on the side of the road instead of LOOKING WHERE HE IS GOING. But I will admit speeding in a residential area IS DANGEROUS!

In the second incident the guy looked like he was trying to hit the red car on purpose so lets skip that one.

Number three had a guy doing 120 approaching a blind curve! Not to mention he clearly does not know how to control a vehicle in those situations. Jerking the steering wheel in those situations will cause most cars to get out of control. Not to mention the moron that decided to park on the side of the road after a blind corner.

Number four has a kid walking on a street WITH CARS while texting on a cell phone. Perhaps if everyone including the kid was paying attention that accident would have been avoided as well.

The one involving the couple was equaly as stupid as the rest...maybe even more so. The guy in the silver hatch is Captain Dum *** of the Year! He get's the award! Forget about the fact that he tried to overtake the car infront of him...WHY IN THE HELL DID HE SWERVE TO AVOID THE CAT IF HE KNEW THERE WAS A CAR NEXT TO HIM? In that situation I would have taken the responsibility of my actions and ran over the animal and screwed up my own car before I would take another persons life.

The rest mostly dealt with residential or downtown areas and excessive speeding in those areas is just plane stupid.

Frankly I am for higher speed limits on HIGH WAYS only but most of all I am for the education of stupid drivers that lack the knowledge to make sound decissions in emergency situations.

Let the flaming begin...My belief of educating morons is not popular. We would rather force everyone to go slow before we educate the masses to drive properly. Even a slow car can kill if the driver is a moron. Speed is not the issue...The driver is!

well put, if only there was more focus on stupid driving then speeding, just this evening the jeep almost had to take out some idiot who decided to make his right turn on a red while i was almost threw the intersection, and, it was in the snow to boot, if i wouldnt have gotten rapped by my insurance company i wouldn't have bothered avoiding it, ppl like that deserve big dents so that eeveyone knows they are terrible drivers.

Good post. I for one found it depressing, but this kind of stuff happens all the time because of drivers who aren't paying attention. If you are in the driver's seat, that's all you should be doing. Not talking on the phone, texting, eating or any of that crap. You have a responsibility. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

Set reality pretty quickly....indeed VERY depressing
but everyday there are distractions on the road, and you see people doing very ignorant and stupid moves like cutting through lanes, merging into a lane causing somebody to lock their tires from avoiding a crash and stupid things like that, even I catch myself texting while driving! time to correct bad driving habits

I Wish they played these commercials stateside.... too often we just see a few words displayed over a black background.

i've seen too many drivers drive wrecklessly... especially when i pick my brother up from high-school..... 20mph zone, yet kids still do 40-50mph weaving in an out of traffic actually doing the speed limit

I'm a 37 year old grown man with 5 children, one of which is in the process of getting their license.

I had to wipe a couple tears away watching that and then spent a good 5 minutes composing an email to my teenager so that he can watch it and not take it lightly.

Beyond graphic, but effective. Thanks for the post.

This thread just reaffirms my belief that in the end it's every man for himself.

I could get angry at those that don't get the video and call them insensitive ******** that are probably in denial of their true feelings. Or I could post how I appreciate all those that do understand the video.

I guess what it's really about though is watching out for all the ******** out there in the world.

I remember watching accident clips from the 70's in Drivers Ed back in high school. This video does more for me.

I think is funny how things like things get people all worked up. Some are too into their mindset that they judge and miss the big picture in front of them. Most of the time those who consider themselves good drivers, aren't.

I think the general idea for the commercial was to convey a sense of responsibility, cause and effect, action and reaction, and freedom of choice.

Don't nip pick the details folks, take it with a grain of salt. No matter what kind of car you drive, you are in control of a deadly weapon.

In relation to cars:

An accident is the result of unforeseeable events. i.e if an animal or someone runs up in your way, a tire blows up, brakes go out, etc. This is why there's speed limits, this is why in theory we go through driver ed and take a driving test. All designed to empowered us to come out on top. Much like the pilot who's been on the news lately and overshadowed the president's farewell address

A crash is the outcome of bad choices. i.e you're speeding in the dark through a residential area, go over the double yellow and pass on a two lane highway, pass when you can't see far enough ahead, speed through a park, school, drive under the influence, talk on your cell phone and yes the stupid earpiece counts, fight with your passenger, etch.

Re-enactments with actors is not crossing the line.

At first I was unsure if I wanted to watch, expecting to see real photos of real accidents, severed heads, etc. That would be crossing the line, without any sort of warning.

I thought it was a good video to keep our senses ALIVE rather then making dumb decisions and ending in horrible tragedies like this.

Though it isnt all about making right decisions on how to drive, but it also comes a flash of Uncertainty and Possibilities which is a VERY SCARY thought.... because at the end of the day, its true... You Never Know.

That is really concerning. I've had several family members and friends die because of car accidents it is very sad. My little cousin died because of a crazy driver..wish everybody could see this video.

I always say that my views are not popular so here's round #2:

Showing this video alone in drivers ed...Etc is not a solution by any means. In fact I would go farther and say it won't educate most of the individuals watching it. The fact is a video is not personal experience and therefore is not personal impact. If you really want to drive the point closer to home re-education is a must! Real life experience is a must! Stronger on road testing! Just because someone passes a writen test it does not make them a good driver. You have to have the hand eye coordination as well as the intellegence! Not to mention common sence. Hell, I think they should have included a common sense section to the test.

This video is meant more for adults. Mostly because we have the maturity to take it seriously. A teenager will watch this and say: That will never happen to me. Maybe some might take it seriously but they will forget they ever saw it a week later and go back to talkin on there cell phones.

Life is not about easy solutions people! A video will not change the world...It might ignite an idea but that idea has to be carried on and pursued! Real work is envolved in educating the uneducated. There's nothing more memorable then real life experience!
