i was actually just thinking and lurking 3si today. very nice choice, not many 99's come by up here in NY. also they seem to be a pretty penny. i find myself in the groove of picking an rx8 over the vr4 alot.

it was rare for many reasons:

-unreliable
-hard to work on
-slow
-heavy
-poor gas mileage
-expensive

but different strokes for different folks. I drove the **** out of one and came away completely unimpressed. It felt slow and ran out of breath early in the rpm range.

i guess to each his own, these factors were a concern to me as well until they were easily worked out.

-unreliable - best shops for 3000GTs in the country are right here in long island
-hard to work on - i do what i love and dont regret it at all so far
-slow - the avg hp range for everyone on the forums is 350-500 td04/05 much better than my 8. less exxpensive as well.
-heavy - easily trim down weight with lightweight parts, seats and AWS delete.
-poor gas mileage - i got 29 mpg on the way home. much better than my 8.
-expensive - an rx8 isnt?

Damn nice, the 3000GT's have been my dream car for a long time (since gran turismo 1, lol)...Too bad they were unavailable in Canada.

Oh well...I may someday try and import one as a project car...I hope...

very nice car,,just be aware that the factory parts for that thing are pretty expensive. oh and a very common problem is the steering rack likes to leak(the front one)lol

Great car. I would love to toy with one. How are the interior bits? Oh and the fitment of the carbon fiber hood on the silver one is hideous.

My brother has a 1992 3kGT VR-4, and its wing was just a lil' baby one and you could control it's tilt from the center console....

I'm surprised "park bench" remarks haven't been made...

From what I've read so far, I'm assuming that they came stock with that thing?

To each his own...it's still a badass car, but I mean WOW that's huge.

i had to register for an account to post in this thread. that's a beautiful car GREAT find. the 3000GT has been my favorite car since I was 14 (11 years ago :P). My aunt has had 2 and one car I was considering before looking at the 8 was a 99 VR-4 but that would have been my 3rd 3000GT. At this point, as much as I love them, I've had one in some form or another since 2003 so its time for a change.

You made a hell of a score there though, great work. I'd keep that baby garaged at all times unless its summer where you are (if you don't have a beater car get one, trust me you won't regret having to tool around in a clunker if it means keeping that thing in pristine shape).

good luck with it, there's a good chance i might be moving from a 97 SL (same color as yours) to an 8 very soon.

Great choice! Last year made and you are correct, very rare find. I actually have the dealer brochure for that car when it came out.

My father and I have a 1995 Stealth RT/TT AWD. It has very low miles (40k) and was a pace car for a local track. Currently it's all stock. It also needs a very good cleaning. Yes, wheels are stock 18" chrome.
