Worst sounding rotary... ever?
Now I like RX-8's and all, but I was looking at an old video of mine and wondered why the hell does this rotary sound so obnoxious? Figured you guys might have some input that might explain it's awful sound.

Again, not a troll. Is there any need for the car to be this obnoxiously loud and run only mid 12's? I understand if it were an 8 second machine, but at what seems to be a lower power level... it seems unnecessary.

You should do some research on how a rotary works. It could be quieter, but it sounds healthy to all of us. For all of that noise, 12's aren't to shabby considering it's a 1.3 liter (13b), or possibly even 1.2 (12a). I can't tell from the video, but if it isn't boosted, it's even more impressive.

Open exhaust rotaries are the loudest things on the planet. Louder than a Judas Priest concert. They used to run that way in road racing too, until the early 80's. Sound controls came into effect to keep race tracks from closing. They were mandated to run with mufflers. They started a rumor that they gained 5hp with that muffler (not true). A person that has been around racing rotary engines for a long time are half deaf (serious).

Lolol troll patrol! Yeah, it sounds like he's running open pipe. Possibly with a port. I had an fc with open pipes. I raced a straight piped ls1 car who said he couldn't hear himself, and he was a car length ahead of me. Rotaries are just loud.

(EDIT Just saw the video better. that's not an RX-3, it is either a chevette, a honda 300 or another mid 70's sub compact, so that frankenstein could have any rotary out there. It is not FI however, as the turbocharger scroll would muffle some of the exhaust note.
Yep, all unmuffled rotaries are ungodly loud and those that have been "Bridge ported" have that distinctive "Brraap-Brraap" Idle.
And most rotor heads actually like that sound. (like the "potato-potato" idle of a 60deg v-twin to a Harley guy, or the "lumpy Idle" of a high overlap cam on a V-8 on a mustang)
Although the music at the upper reaches of the rev range is much better than the Braap-braap Idle...
Oh EDIT II; If SVT Sticks arround because he wants to learn about rotaries (which are VERY different from his supercharged V-8) then all the ones calling him a troll will eat tasty crow, otherwise... Ovious Troll is Ovious.

Troll galore. Someone is mad that his Eaton swapped 4.56 geared SVT Cobra Rustang on par with an NA rotary (possibly even a 12A).

I love rotaries but I think they can either be the best or worst sounding cars around. I don't like the sound of that car and it is definitely too loud. But a turbo small port rotary with the right mufflers sounds smooth and fantastic.

Not sure what makes me a troll. And I'm not mad about that. Keep in mind that car weighed under 3,000 lbs, probably under 2500 even, and is not very streetable, whereas my car has sound deadening, sub in the trunk, full interior etc...

Lol you must be used to hanging out with your buddies throwing on glasspacks or other straight through pipes on your badass V6's which is why you think that it isn't loud.

I am sure a knowledgeable guy like yourself can get started with the above link and branch out from there, no sense in feeding trolls

I can do that, too.
Point is, even when you find results, they're not common. The majority of the Mustang crowd has Magnaflow, Bassani, Borla, Flowmaster etc... While a small percentage may try glasspacks.
