Hello - might be interested in the whole shebang - but I have some concerns and questions, all should be easy for you.... I have done some searching in the forums and ended up with more questions than answers...

First, I have a ton of electronics in my car. 64 bit Vista car computer, cameras, custom fan controller, XM satellite, wifi, handsfree bluetooth, sCANalyzer, pocket PC integration, GPS etc. etc. etc...

BUT, I have only dealt with a tiny tidbit of audio stuff so far... I only have installed a dual 10" sub with a Sony amp (that accepts line or speaker level), and I tapped in off the rear hi-level speakers (yuk). I also added a nice pair
of tweeters up front to help the high end (ran them parallel with the bose mid-tweet).

I have done lots of car stereo over the years, but I am way out of touch now, but I still know I want a dedicated amp/crossover/level box to bypass the factory amps, and also have aftermarket speakers (I was always a Boston Acoustics fan BTW).

Your set up sounds like the ticket across the board....But.....

Are these speakers all drop in replacements for the bose drivers? (I assume yes)

I have to keep my stock HU for various reasons. I have the PIE adapter for the CarPC, and I have the Parrot bluetooth handsfree kit harness plugged into this HU as well. As you might guess, when activated, the Parrot bypasses the HU and feeds its audio straight to the bose amps (the 3rd party wire harness has a dedicated levels control box). Will I loose this functionality if I use the 6XS? (I assume no)

I want to stay away from the dash area (if you could see it you would understand) and wire everything in the trunk since I have power there already for the sub amp, and that is where the rear bose amp is. But, if I tap into the HU's pre-amp lines going to this rear amp to feed the 6XS, what about the pre-amp lines going to the two door bose amps? Or do they also go to the rear amp first? Do I just run new dedicated speaker lines to the front doors from the rear?

It is a pain to replace the factory speakers isn't it? Especially the rears...no?

Anyways, thanks for reading all this, I will be interested to hear your thoughts...

-C

I have roughly $2,000 in boston acoustic stuff waiting to be installed in my vehicle. From what Ive gathered, most audio installs for our cars are a pain. The rears arent impossible to get to but not the easiest thing. I believe the rear seats have to come out. The fronts are a different story, since you have bose, I assume you have 9" speakers in the doors so you will have to make a bracket out of either mdf, plexiglass, or lexan.

Here is a good write-up im sure you've seen before.
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/speaker-sizes-harnesses-kits-etc-audio-install-reference-74664/

I dont believe you can run any of these speakers off of the factory bose amp. Thats why I have the boston acoustic gt-42 4 channel amp.

As far as the audio control 6xs goes, someone else will have to answer your question because I have 0 experience with it. Ive got both the rockford 3sixty.1 and the MTX Re-q 5 and access to JL cleensweeps at cost so I can't decide which to use

I Hope it works out for you and as an authorized boston dealer I can vouch for the SL 95's and the pros. I sell those pros for $400 all day long so If I were you i'd scoop em up just to have for later.

My future audio setup: Boston sl60, boston sl95, boston g3 10", boston gt-22, boston gt-24, pioneer avic d3, pioneer CD-BTB200 bluetooth, whichever processor I decide to use

WVBoosted is correct in what he says.

In response to your questions Chamberlin - The rears (in my opinion) are much easier to do then the fronts. I never dropped in speakers and had them pushed by the stock bose amp in the rX8 (i had them pushed by the alpine) I'm not sure about the Ohm rating of the amp vs the 6X9 or 6.5" component speakers.

In my opinion the rear's are easier to do then the fronts, yes the rear seats come out but they are a breeze. The doors are a bit more complicated because you do have to have a 9" baffel made (i made my own out of plexi) \

In terms of tapping for a singal - I tapped the preout lines from the headunit right before they went into the bose amp in the rear deck. Nice and easy tapping the 4 lines and soldering on some RCA jacks - which then fed into the 6XS crossover.

I'm not car audio pro but I have done two full bose replacements and have had success in both that I am happy about. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much for the information guys... I didn't mean to turn this into a stereo install thread, but I am serious about this setup, so I figured I would post here for all to see.

Just to clarify, I have NO intention of running any of the speakers off the Bose amps... buying all of your items toxin, including the Alpine amp, will allow this to be done...

OK, so all of these speakers here for sale can be used, but I will I have to build a baffle for the fronts...should be no biggie... and yes, I have the Bose 9"s up front or whatever they are... I will figure out how to wire in the tweeters too, as I already have a crossover capacitor up front for my extra tweet on the A pillar.....

Pulling the rear seats is a breeze like you said, I have done it a bunch of times, and I have the black plastic seat back panels removed, since my subs fire forward... I was more worried about removing the rear deck speaker covers more than anything!

As far as the signal, thank you for that clarification, that is what I was hoping to do, tap in and make RCAs out of the grey wires right before the rear amp....
This is a full range signal, nice and flat right? So this will be my primary feed to the Audio Control box (which can accept just about any type of signal, which is nice).
But once I feed its 6 outputs to the Alpine amp (F/R), and the Sony sub amp (Sub), I will still be running speaker lines from the Alpine to the front door speakers... OK got it. I think I can fit a couple of more wire pairs into this car!

VWBoosted8, thank you for the link, yes I was looking at that last night... and man, I thought I was a Boston fan.... My boss just got the Avic D3 for his old MR2, and it is a neat piece... but regardless of HU, your system should really be fantastic in the audio dept.

One final thing regarding my set up, as I mentioned I have the Parrot MK6100, and its harness plugs right into the back of the HU, and then the factory harness plugs into the adapter harness, effectively piggybacking like a aftermarket EMS would.
I have to do some tests today to see if when I am using the bluetooth handsfree, that the cellphone call is going to all four channels, and not just the front... I know when I stream BT audio from my phone to it, all 4 speakers work, but there is a chance it only puts the voice calls into the front channels....which would suck if I am using the rear line level channels to tap into the 6XS....

Again, thanks for your comments and suggestions! I will have an answer about buying all of these components later today!
Here are some pics just for kicks. Room for the Alpine and 6XS on the sub box? I think so...

Hey thanks man! I hope it works out too... I had almost forgot about even bothering with the aftermarket audio until I saw his FS post here... seems to be one stop shopping!

My center channel has been replaced with a Logitech Orbit Web Camera base

BTW, toxin, you have the bass subwoofer level controller (and the other wiring tidbits) for the 6XS right? Thanks!

Old picture, all the antennas are hidden now...
