SSR Comps 17x8.5 +42et with Hankook RS2s 235/40-17
I have a set of SSR Comps 17x8.5 +42et with Hankook RS2s 235/40-17 mounted. Pretty good tire for entry level track or daily driving.
These wheels are awesome, and in excellent condition. Only about 3k miles on them. They are super-light, about 16 lbs without tire if I remember correctly. They're the old-school one-piece design with diamond-cut lip, which AFAIK hasn't been made since SSR went through bankruptcy a few years ago. (The two-piece 17x8 SSR-C I put on a scale was about a pound heavier than the one-piece version with identical specs for my BMW.)
These wheels were used on an RSX, so I don't have centering rings for an RX-8, but you can get new ones from Tire Rack or locally. I will include the lugs shown in the picture.
These wheels would be one of the best things you could do to an RX-8. I've been a wheel/tire pro and have driven more cars with more wheels than most people will in a lifetime. Stock, every RX-8 I've driven has "heavy wheel feel". These will fix that, guaranteed. The reduction in rotational inertia due to the weight reduction and smaller diameter will give the car a more lively feel, and improve ride quality. The gearing of these shorter tires will help acceleration, as well.
The wheels will take 245/40-17 or 245/45-17 tires, so you can exploit the Grand Am Koni Challenge GS used Hoosier supply, or the World Challenge Touring Car used 235/40-17 Toyo R888 tire supply. And they clear most 328 or 330mm BBKs - I've verified that the StopTech RX-8 kit will work.
Won't find a better wheel for the car, if you're not chasing maximum wheel/tire fit. It kinda hurts to offer them for sale, but I've finally decided I'm not buying a car that will use them any time soon, and I've downsized my garage, so they need to go.
I need to see close to $1200 with tires. Will do local pickup in SoCal or add shipping.
If you don't want the tires, I can dismount them for reduced shipping cost, but I don't expect to get much more than the dismount fees for them. They are most valuable mounted on these wheels.
BTW, the pic shows Yokohama A032R tires, not the Hankooks.
