As most of you know, this past winter I spent most of my time developing the ultimate renesis build that you see here. After we got the car running, an encounter with a piece of gasket paper from the intake manifold install that was sucked into the engine caused some engine damage and I had to pull the engine out so I decided to experiment with a half-bridgeport setup. I finally got that going a couple months ago and was very excited with how it came out. I broke in the engine and started tuning, the engine was moving air like crazy, I know because I had to richen up the fuel map by up to 27% in some areas compared to pre manifold/bridge. I suspect the airflow increase was probably half a result of the intake manifold and half a result of the bridgeporting. The intake manifold provided for a really good powerband all the way up to redline as opposed to the stock intake manifold which starts choking the engine past 8-8.2k rpm when you go above 380-390whp.
I was very excited with the setup and was arranging to have it dynoed on a Wednesday about 3 weeks ago but decided to drive it to Wisconsin the Saturday before to take a pass down the 1/4mile. I only wanted one good pass so I lined up (not abusing the tranny) went around the water box and did a quick second gear tire warm up. I hadn’t driven the car on this setup at the track ever and I underestimated the bite the track had and when I dumped the clutch at 4500 I didn’t go full throttle fast enough and I almost shut the car off…I stayed on it and eventually pulled a 2.6s 60ft, the car broke loose in 1st from a roll so I shifted….way too soon…and it bogged again but I kept on it and ran a 9.0 @ 91.xx mph on the 1/8th which sucks, probably due to the horrible start…anyways…at the bottom end I pulled a 12.91 @ 122.XX mph. I wasn’t wearing a helmet so I got scolded and told not to run like that without a helmet again…lol…
For all those calculating guru’s my car weights about 3080 (all the options…and some well received added weight ) and I weight 185..so do the math on the weight and mph…also…I am pretty confident I could run a 124mph pass due to the horrible start..and this was all at 17-18psi holding throughout the powerband and on my street rubber mounted on 19’s. I was convinced that I could pull a better pass so later on I borrowed a helmet from a guy at the track and I decided to run again….big mistake…I never run premix in my engines because I use the OMP and that has never failed me…well…I’ve always had a check valve in the air jet hose that feeds air to the OMP jets/injectors. This is to allow air to flow inward when in vacuum situations but block it from flowing outward during boost. A week before the track day my I found that my check valve was leaking when checked it and I decided to replace it with a push in plug…no air is better than air against the flow of oil, right? WRONG…I completely forgot to replace the plug with a check valve before going to the track and it was all ok until on the second pass the engine became really loud while I was going WOT about 2/3 of the way down the track… the plug must have been spit out either during that run or the previous one…and the out flow of air against oil must have starved the engine of oil somehow (maybe one or more of the oil injector check valves were stuck open) and the chambers basically dried out while I was at high rpm/boost. I noticed the engine didn’t sound like anything had broken…no lumpy running…it sounded even on all lobes…but it was really loud…metallic sounding and the compression was low…so there it is… the second pass had a much better 2.3 60ft…as the engine lost lubrication it kinda flunked on the top end and I eventually let off…running a 12.99 @ 112.XX…way worse than before…obviously it was hurt, it sounded like crap and it was running rough but even, it didn’t seem like it had lost compression on any face more than any other…I didn’t understand at time but it all made sense later on when I investigated.
I had thought about building a 20b for some time now for my personal car. We have 3 local cars that have our products installed on them and there is another RX-8 in the Esmeril Racing family so there is no longer a need for me to keep my personal car as working billboard so I have decided to take the plunge and build me a 20b. I wasn’t planning on taking this step now but it seems like a good time to start since I have to pull everything out anyways and its winter so I might as well do it now.
Stuff for sale:
My loss will be someone else’s gain because all of this is custom and it does not make sense for me to try and adapt it to a different engine. I will be selling the ultimate Esmeril setup as a kit for one lucky owner at a price that they probably could not get the kit we make at. The catch is that this is not meant to be a complete bolt on kit…and I do not want to have to deal with issues from people not knowing what they are doing. I am just selling the major components to turbo your RX-8 in a very special way but you will still need to source other stuff, I can point you in the right direction I just don’t want to have to babysit so buy this at your own risk. If you are going to ask me whether this will bolt up to the stock exhaust, yes it will but you probably shouldn’t be thinking about buying this or should find some experienced help. If you want a stock fitting, bolt on type kit that you can drop in and not mess with go with our turbo kit, this is for the person that wants this level of performance and understands what it entails. I will do everything I can to help the buyer get the system working on his/her car within reason.
Benefits of these components compared to the ones in our kit are:
- Better designed exhaust manifold which can support 500whp
- Intake manifold will really help the power band and reduce the boost needed to reach a certain hp level and easily support 500whp…
- “Show like” engine bay appeal
- Reliable couplers that never get spit out…
- Better intercooling through proper water to air design.
- Custom, one-off, exclusive (whatever you want to call it) bragging rights wherever you go
- ETC ETC ETC….
I will include everything in the kit…the buyer has a choice of getting the turbo and/or the interceptor-X also. The semi kit has like 2-3k miles. THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO WORK WITH THE COBB NOR WILL IT WORK, it’s meant for a standalone like the microtech (Interceptor-X)
Semi-Kit Items:
- 304ss 3into1 tubular exhaust manifold, t4 flange
- Mild steel mandrel bent 3” down pipe
- 46mm wastegate (does not stick out the bottom )
- Turbo support brace
- Custom all Aluminum intake manifold
- Modified throttle body for Wiggins/Pegasus clamp
- 4X 3” Pegasus clamps.
- Pipe to and from turbo/intercooler.
- 4.5” thick water to air intercooler with all hoses.
- Front mounted heat exchanger with fan, water pump and relay circuit.
- Satin black diamond radiator cover plate.
- Firewall mounted radiator fluid tank and lines (optional if used or not)
- All other bits related that I might be forgetting at the moment.
Price: 3850.00
Turbocharger:
- Precision Turbo PT71GTQ Billet series turbo (about $2100 new) Q-Trim with a .96 A/R T4 or a .68 A/R Housing. Has less than 2500 miles since full refurbish/rebuild ($550) at Precision Turbo.
Price: 950.00
Modified 720cc RX-8 injectors for the primary location – 120.00
Electronic Box to control the APV at the command of the Interceptor-X – 80.00

Yeah....and that was at less boost than I have run it at. At 19-20psi it should hit 125-126mph easily and with that and slicks you can easily pull a 10sec pass but it would/could break stuff in the drive train so I didn't even try slicks, the problem was that I bogged it off the line.
