WTB: OEM Navigation System

Hey all, I am looking to put a navigation kit in my 8, would prefer the OEM factory installed pacakge. It would need to be shipped to New Jersey (07054) and I'd like to buy the whole package (including the DVD, dash pieces, etc). Thanks!

it's slightly different, but works in the same spot.

they also have the stock nav unit but im not sure if it works the same with our cars.

installing the OEM nav is not an easy thing to do... it's not just taking off some dash pieces and you're done. Wires run throughout the car... there's a thread somewhere about one guy doing it and it looked like a world class PITA.

I saw a complete OEM nav for sale on fleabay yesterday for about $750... they typically top off about $800. The full kit new is some insane amount, like $1800 or so.

If you're a geek you're much better off getting the japanparts retractable nav tray and building a carpc... much more bang for the buck.

before you go the Tom Tom route you might look at an after market dash insert with a double din HU. Corksport and Metra both sell kits that allow you to put an after market radio in your car.. and that radio could (if you buy it) have nav.. here's a pic of mine. I'm using the corksport kit.

haha, damn lots of info, I really am not looking to put a pc in my car, just a navi kit

laythor: I really like the way you set up the radio/navi build, how much did that cost for equipment and installation?

gotta get this installed asapp

his is a carpc. notice the "ex" on the headunit for the PIE input.

The retractable dash thing is just for a lcd screen mount, such as for a carpc setup. Quite easier than you think and much more beneficial. Stock nav sucks anyway

aitee, i really need help with this guys, ive decided not to go with the stock navigation, instead i'm trying for either the in-dash insert or the retractable tray + carpc deal.

shelldude: did you get all of your parts for the carpc and the retractable tray and all necessary items from japanparts? also, how much was the total cost for everything if you don't mind me asking? Also dude, i really don't know what a 'carpc' is, like when you say more bang for your buck what benefits/luxuries come with the carpc in contrast to say a stock nav or even the set up that laythor has, thanks in advance man!

laythor: i checked out corksport and found two kits (one with automatic climate and another with manual), are these the kits you are talking about to install the navigation the way you did? Also, it says i gotta call for price, would you know how much it cost you to get all the parts and what not? i can't seem to find metra's website..

PS: If anyone else has input or can answer some questions or help out i'd totally appreciate it, thanks!

A car pc is essentially a computer that you can use in your car. Using a touch screen or other form of input, the computer takes on various functions- Including multimedia, Navigation, engine readouts, etc.

Do some research on carpc's OP, you will need to be SOMEWHAT knowledgeable on the topic... as they are most definitely not plug and play. Check out the DIY forum, a member posted a check list of stuff to do.

Me and my buddy are currently trying to figure out how to put a carpc in my 09 R3. I wonder if that flip up navi screen will function in an 09, prob not.
