I cant wait to watch this! its going to be very exciting with 4 competitve RX-8s. Although the Goldin bro car isnt very fast, but I think they're shooting for reliability, and turned the power down.
the #69, #70, #63 car is about even in practice.

I love the event. It's very fan friendly (one can walk into the paddocks and observe at all hours), it's not crowded and the racing is good.
I've driven the 24 hour course myself for a weekend in an open wheel Barber Dodge when I attended race school so I have a total appreciation for the line and brake zones.
This year, I'm rooting for the 8's! (before I would laugh when they would DNF).
IMO the Friday race is more exciting to watch than the 24 hr race.
If any of you see a stock, red RX8, don't hesitate to hollar.

Good news from Cam is that the SC kit should start rolling out the door in the 5-6 weeks. I'm sure there will be updates in other parts of this forum.

The RX8 in ST is more or less a regular RX8 decked out in race trim, weight loss and safety hardware. I didn't even know there was going to be one in GT. That's fantastic. I'm a big fan of Randy Pobst! And obviously I love the RX8, though I don't own one.
Like that other guy said, the first thing I thought is how did they make the RX8 fast enough for GT? All the other cars in GT are NOT tube frame, purpose built racecars. One of the guys who used to run a 350z in Grand Am Cup GS used to frequent my350z.com and sell aftermarket parts tested by his team on track. His car started stock. Again, not a tube frame racecar. As far as I know, no car in Grand Am Cup / Rolex (GT) is a purpose built racecar. I'd be shocked to hear if any of the cars were, and it would sorta ruin the series for me.
As far as Mazda's return to glory in road racing... Wake up, my friends! They may not be winning championships on a steady basis, but they absolutely whip *** with Speedsource's RX8 in Grand Am Cup ST, and Tri Point Motorsports Mazda6 in Speed World Challenge.
Screw drag racing, drifting and ovals. Watch yourself some of the best road racing in the U.S. Speed World Challenge and Grand Am Cup

Note: Obviously I know the Daytona Prototypes are purpose built racecars. Despite how much camera time they hog during coverage of Rolex, they are the least interesting cars to watch.
You're not saying that Mazda built a DP car, right?

I believe there are other tube cars in the GT series. The RX-8 definatly have an advantage over some cars, but I dont know by how much. They dont have the most power in the GT class, and i m sure less torque than most!
Do a search on google, these RX-8 tube frames cars sell for 200k each from Mazdaspeed. Tube frame, R20B engine, carbon fiber body. They make around 450hp if my memory serves me right.
Daytona prototypes are the ugliest prototypes........

I am really looking forward to seeing the Mazda GT entry this year, i hope the boys over at Speedsource do well.

yeah, i forgot about the Vette's, there are not many of them, and they are really not all that competitive. I did not know that Infiniti was going to be running a car. Should be along the same lines as the 350 entry. A little bigger, but similar.
