I have an AutoART in the same color as my car, and finally found the 787 liveried one still for sale, and am going to order it, and maybe the #55 787 next week.

i think my wife would kill me. I have about a dozen, 1:18 scale or various cars, and 4 or 5 small RX-8's, if I see one at the store, I still buy them, even Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars that I like.

Well thanks for the update guys. I have been so busy that every time I put the race on to watch, its very late at night and I fall asleep. I just had to view the results. I KNEW #70 was going to take it home. From what I saw of the race, they were flying. I never knew the car was THAT much lighter than the rest of the cars either.

Speed did a great job covering the GT cars. That is how it should be. Well, I am happy that Mazda won...but I will still watch the race later!

Mazda RX-8 - 2200lb
Porsche GT3 - 2525lb
Porsche 997 GT3 - 2625lb
Pontiac GXPR - 2700lb

We probably have the least horsepower and worst fuel mileage out there (from daytona). The RX-8 pitted at lap 55 at mexico. If they refueled a full tank, that means that they could use the extra fuel to make more power and go faster, as stated by Mr. Haskell, the 3-rotor becomes inefficient at higher rpms, but it should in theory be making more power.

It won't be that light for too much longer. The other P cars will be lobbying to slow it down.

yeah, both the P car drivers were complaining in the interviews after the race, or so it seemed. they will probably get hit with some added ballast before too long, wonder if that added ballast could be me?

that depends, theyr performance in Daytona was not enought to get Gran AM to put more weithg in them, but, if they do in homestead like they did in Mexico they will get some more weight for sure

that'd be too much weight penalty!!! jkjk =d

actually, reading the news on the speedsource site, although the #70 won by 22sec, they said they came into the pits 2sec ahead, and came out 22sec ahead after all the cars pitted, the #70 is fast, but i dont think its that much faster than the rest of the field. The P car was following very closely behind the #70 for the first half of the race. Maybe they need to mod their pit crews first. Its just one race, I dont think we'll receive any ballast soon, maybe after they win homestead lol... emphasis @ daytona was reliability, GA will need a couple more races to determine if the rx-8s are significantly faster than the rest. I think^

thats the thing they are not much faster, we cant say they are faster because of one race, if thats the case porche should get more weight because they won Daytona, and Mexico is a unique race with hi elevation that may favor the rx-8, now if they win homestead I think things may change

probably.

I hope they don't get hit with a penalty, their straight line speed is not superior to the other cars, or not so much that they just walked the others down the straights, they are just better in the corners, and easier on tires. no matter what, it is going to be fun to watch them this year, and I can't wait until our annula gathering at Barber Motorsports Park this year, hearing them scream in person will be awesome.

I rmb the interview with Mr. tremblay he stated that the RX-8 loves the high elevation @ mexico. yeah the porsches were very very fast @ daytona until the leading one broke down, that car was somewhere in the 1-2s range faster per lap, with awesome fuel mileage too. "down in power and fuel mileage" is wat Tremblay said @ a interview @ daytona!

We dont have an rpm limiter(at least in the pdf rules file), that might allow the RX-8s to "cheat" a little bit when they need power, and the PP rotaries love high rpms, just like the rumored "close to 900hp" on the 787B @ 10500rpm.

Also the first few laps, the Ps(both the farnbacher Ps) were going at the RX-8s hard, taking the lead real early and probably used up some tires in the process(also not up to temp too?
). Ham, just laid back and drove at a consistent pace and took the lead when the tires were up to temperature.

Anyways, its just one race, but then the Ps complained on every interview they had.

Aand that is what seems to get the attention of the Grand Am folks, look what they did to the Cobalt's in ST last year, and the Accord coupe. Hit them both hard, and they were never the same for it.

I believe we're down in straight line speed to many cars, at least most if not all of the front running cars. Mexico is a handling course i guess, the esses, and that turn before the pits, etc etc. where the lightweight mazda excel.
