There's a little highlight video available on the Grand Am site.
http://www.grand-am.com/Multimedia/Player.asp

Sylvain Tremblay says in the interview "Go Mazdaspeed... zoom zoom, two in a row!"

You can definitely hear the unique scream of the 20B rotary engine. Simply AWESOME!.

VIR next... can't wait for that one!

I know I have mentioned this before, but it would be kick *** if we sponsered one of the cars if possible. I saw that another site has done this for the Tri-Point MAzda 6 in the SpeedWorld Challenge series. We should do the same

Just my thoughts.

The Porsche TRG folks whinning a bit....

http://www.motorsport.com/news/artic...ANDAM-GRANDCUP

Homestead: TRG race report
Racing series GRANDAM
Date 2007-03-26

TRG placed 2nd and 11th at Homestead
TRG Continues Podium Streak at Homestead

Homestead, Fl. (March 24, 2007) - The #66 CRG Karts/TRG Porsche 911 GT3 of R.J. Valentine and Andy Lally scored a season-best 2nd place today, finishing less than one second behind the winning Mazda RX-8 of Sylvain Tremblay and Nick Ham. In doing so, TRG extended its podium streak at Homestead to 8 races. Winners at Homestead in 2004, 2005 and 2006, TRG's repeated success at Homestead in 2007 means the team has finished on the podium in 26 of the past 27 Grand-Am races.

In a race that saw nine caution periods, TRG made excellent pit strategy calls to keep in touch with the faster Mazda, and Lally drove a typically brilliant closing stint, swapping the lead back and forth in the closing minutes of the race. 2007 has seen the regular emergence of the Mazda leading the field, adding competitive pressure to the Porsches, Pontiacs and BMWs, Mustangs and Nissan 350Zs that comprise the GT class. Unfortunately for the rest of the field, Mazda has been granted a 300lb. weight advantage, allowing the cars to out-sprint the competition on long straights.

Team owner Kevin Buckler said, "R.J. and Andy did an absolutely fantastic job. We couldn't have expected anything better given the conditions; the drivers were fantastic, the pit stops and the strategy were perfect. We're clearly down on power to the Mazda, even though we have them outgunned in handling. There's just no way to win at a 300lb. weight disadvantage."

"We had a really good car and by far the best Porsche in the field, hands down," Lally added. "We did a decent job with it. We came up just a little bit short, and that's a little bit disappointing. I wish we had a little more for those guys at the end, but I don't think we could have planned out the race any better than we did."

Valentine said, "It was my job today to give the team a good chance to win, and the team made the call to get Andy in the car at the first caution period - who'd have thought there would be nine yellow flags today? Andy almost closed the deal there, he's an amazing driver and a great teammate."

Scott Tucker and Ed Zabinski finished 11th in the #67 TRG Porsche, from a field of 25 GT class cars. The duo made their first start with TRG, and did team owner Kevin Buckler proud.

"Huge congratulations to Scott and Ed for a fantastic run in their first race with TRG. Scott did a great job on the start dicing it up with the pros, and kept his nose clean and the car on the lead lap. He handed it over to his co-driver during one of the cautions and Ed just drove the wheels off the car. The drivers made no mistakes and the team made a couple of good calls. What a great run for these guys."

One day these Porsche teams will whinge about the rotary's reliabilty.
I'd be happy to see an RX8 with the same weight as the Porsche provided the 4 rotor is powering the car. That would be a sight to see.

but hay, i recalled that whenever a Porche and the RX8 are head to head on a long straight long, the porche always overtakes the RX8.... so... STOP WHINNING AND SUCK IT UP.

they can't bitch too much, they were only a second behind. Now, if the Speedsource car finished half a lap, or some crazy distance like that ahead, then I would see their point. but it was 1 second. they are just pissed, that they don't dominate anymore, and that they may have to go back to the drawing board, and figure out how to go faster. buncha cry babies. I don't remember a lot of crying last year when the Porsches and Pontiac's won every race. two car types won last year, either a TRG Pontiac, or one of the Taffel Porsches.

I thought the parity system was working the way it should be. I am surprised to see the BMW M3 so far behind. I reckon the M3 runners should be complaining more. Porsche boys are acting like sore losers.

Manufacturers point:

Porsche 96
Mazda 93

they complain about the weight? thats easy to solve, the porche guys should go to a smaller engine, that way they can have a lighter car

well, outside of the Daytona race, there are only 2 Mazdas running in GT. I don't even want to count how many Porsches.

What happened to the other 2 GT RX8 entrants?.

Also, the #69 SS RX8 pitted in early during the race and laptimes were way off compared to the #70. Did it suffer from niggling mechanical/electrical issues?.

The Goldin Bros, and Team Spencer, the other 2 RX-8 GTs in Grand-Am, were/are running only selected races this season. SpeedSource is the only full-time Mazda GT team on the Grand-Am schedule.

I really doubt the Mazdas are making the power that the Porsches are and definitely not the same peak torque numbers or general torque for that matter. This is where the weight advantage/ Dis-advantage provides parity.

This is so reminiscent of the good old IMSA days where Mazda was dominant. If they pull back some of the weight advantage the Mazdas may still win championships due to reliability and such an excellent team in Speed Source; True professionals.

To David and Sylvain, if you get a chance to read this; Rick says congrats and hello.

Paul.

If the porsches dont have their engines hanging back there, they might be a lot faster in the twisties!!! they slide around so much once the tires are worn =)

The Goldin bro(black/red) car ran in homestead last year. You could also check the archives in Grand-Am, I believe both the Spencer(orange) car ran more than
Daytona as well.

You have to account for lack of torque of HP compared to the other cars to even things out. If we were putting out the same HP and TQ as we do now, while in the same weight class as the others, I don't think we would be were we are. I don't see why others cant see that? They just look and say "Hey they are 500lbs lighter, did they pay off the series?"
