1/8 mile Time

I went to the track tonight. It was an 1/8 mile track. My best Time was a 9.5.

I do not have any prior track expierence. Even less when it comes to 1/8 mile times. As everyone is always talking about 1/4 mile times when it comes to straight line racing.

My question is my 9.5 time, was it good?

The mustang a 2004 GT with exhaust and intake got a 9.7 I was happy about that. Was it a good time or should I just be happy I beat the stang?

The Stang probably had a bad driver/run or was an AT. A 9.5 in the 1/8 would equate to about a 14.8-14.9 in the 1/4 which is a little above or about average with what most RX-8 owners get.

Sounds ok to me for a stock 8... We took ours once:
RT .519
60' 2.185
330' 6.180
1/8 9.448 @ 74.91mph

no the guy in the stang had 3 runs 1 9.6 and 2 9.7 runs. and it was a manual.

Then I should be going way faster with all the mods I have.

again I'm a newbie at the track.

my reaction time was a .702
60ft 2.482
trap 76.6 mph
I did spin the wheels a little would that make a huge difference?

he was also real close to me friend with his speed6 and he gets 13.5 in the 1/4 mile and I beat him in the 1/4 mile

My problem is..................I know you got the SC even before it appeared in you sig and you should be faster than what you said. That was my issue with what you wrote................now I see that you said you have some wheel spin, so that may h ave been a lot of the difference. I don't have the SC(yet), but you should have been faster than that as I have ridden in Bastage's car and I know for sure he's much faster than I(and I'm not total stock, but close). Your reaction time cost you as well.

there was some wheel spin but not crazy wheel spin.Yes my reaction time sucks I was nervous. I know no excuse it was fun though. Yes I now I should be a lot faster that is why I am asking. I hope it is just my driving skills. The car feels fine. I wish bastage lived closer so I had some one to compare it to.

You lost a lot of time with all your wheel spin, the 60' time and mph show that. At a 2.1 60' I spun the wheels a lot, my autox setup with -1.8 rear camber does not make for a good launch. With a 2.4 60' you must have looked like a drifter. Work on getting the car to hook and you will be much faster.

Hrm... I didn't notice all your mods when I first posted. You're running what a stock RX-8 would, and not even a particularly good run for a stock 8. The other thing is your trap speed should be a lot higher. Your reaction time and 60 ft. won't have a lot of effect on your trap speed, which is more an indication of power to weight ratio. Also, RT has nothing to do with your ET.

I agree with Ike and would only add by asking if you turned the TC/DSC off. When I last took the time to test my car, as unscientific as it might have been judged, I found that even with the nitrous I was quicker by holding the revs at 5K and letting out the clutch pedal quick(but not "dumping it") while also flooring the gas pedal. By the time the clutch grabbed and moved the car I was at 7,500. After trying several different methodologies this one was the quickest and most consistent. This was quite a while ago but with a 55 shot I was getting 2.2s 60-foot times, 8.7s@85 mph 1/8 mi. times. 0-60 mph were in the 5.0-5.1 range.

Ok! This times is from today at Barkarby Airport in Stockholm 1/8 mile dragracing with street cars. My best run today was a 9.76s@76.16 mph. The highest mph was 77.05 mph at a lousy ET of 10.53s. My best 60 ft was 2.185s, then i average round 2.27-2.35s. I also compare my G-Tech Pro against the drag strip time once:

Dragstrip: 9.950s@74.52 mph (60ft 2.26s)
G-Tech Pro: 9.72s@76.12 mph

My G-Tech showed at this run a 0-62 mph of 6.88s.

Today i use Bridgestone 235/40x18" R-tires (compared to Hankook 235/35x19") on the street.

The engine mods can you see in my Avatar.

Has your car been professionally tuned on a dyno? If it has I would take it back to where you got it tuned and have them take a look at the car. If you havne't get it done before you even consider going back to the strip or driving the car overly hard.

Another good point from Ike. I had assumed Pettit had tuned it for you since they installed the sprayer, as well.

The car's last tune was a street tune. I will schedule a dyno tune.

It's usually better practice to do the dyno first, then the street-tune as the street will offer a wider range of variables. One exception would be using a Mustang dyno that can replicate different scanarios by applying load to the wheels.

Dynojet has a new model that is an eddy-current type which has the ability to place a load on the wheels just like the Mustang dynos do. If that's what Pettit is using you might get lucky.

You should be able to get to the low 9's with a good tire setup and launch. My lightened B13 Sentra SE-R ran a 9.0 with a low 70's mph trap speed with a 1.8 60 foot. You probably won't be able to get that 60 foot on any type of street tire but the higher trap should make up some time. 1/8 mile all about the launch. My 83 mph trap civic ran a 8.52 on slicks with a 1.8 60 foot as well.
