When I checked it yesterday, it showed 30% for friday, now it's 10%....let's hope the trend continues so that by the time Friday rolls around it'll be 0%, 10%, 10%
When are you guys getting into town and where are you staying? I plan to roll into town Thursday night and be at the site early Friday morning. Staying at the Radisson Largo.
See you there!

Jay,
My co-driver Shawn (moxnix) lives in Woodbridge, VA which is about 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic -- so I'll be staying at his place. On Friday, I plan to arrive between 10:30-11am. IIRC gates open around 8am.
While you won't get a true taste of what an RX-8 is like to autocross, you're still welcome to do a practice start or two in my car. Just come find me.
Here's hoping for little to no rain!

I'll live & learn but had a blast hanging out with my friends this weekend! Congrats to Ruggles on his 1st place finish and my co-driver Shawn for stepping it up and taking 2nd.
To those that will be attending the Toledo Pro - I just hope the Porsche 968 doesn't show up to run. That's another story though in and of itself...

I hear there was a protest in BS... I take it the 968 is involved. I guess it is also under appeal.

The entire a/c system had been removed from his car. According to the Porsche experts that were consulted (Murray, Baker, Faulkner) before the protest was made, all US models of the 968 came standard with this from the factory. Hill did appeal and has 10 business days to show written documentation of the legality of this "a/c delete" option or else he will be offcially DQ'd.

I definitely know of Bauer's success in the 968. The 968 driver (Hill) that ran at the DC Pro definitely out-drove all of us and "provisionally" took the win. However, his car wasn't legal for the class and he was protested in impound with the full support of all the other members that ran in the class.

Looks like F-stock put a thumpin' on the index, again.

While I didn't feel Hill's times were untouchable, I was in full support of the protest, b/c I wouldn't want him to travel to the Toledo Pro (or any other National event) until he had rectified this issue with his car.
The person that submitted the protest was very torn about doing it, but ALL of the other competitors in the class (inlcuding myself) agreed that a car that was so blatantly illegal should not have shown up in the first place. In Hill's defense, he may not have been aware that his car was illegal for B-stock as he was a younger fellow and most likely bought the car used.
F-stock was definitely moving. Ian Stewart coned away what could have been a strong 2nd place finish. Strano drove like Strano on Sunday morning.
While my driving sucked (just barely beat GJ's H-stock cumulative time ), my co-driver and I were on 100 run V710s (actually 102 as he did 2 runs in the Super Challenge). We'll be on fresh rubber for the Toledo Pro. I'm sure Shawn will pick up speed, and I'll just see where I end up. Either way, I'm sure we'll have a blast - I love dual course Pro Solos!

Looks like things are becoming a bit clearer - Chief of Impound at the DC Pro had this to say on NASIOC:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...&postcount=230
Btw -- it has also been said that the 968 was missing a number of other little items including no rear wiper, possible wrong seats and some missing underhood covers. I know M. Murray really picked the car apart - and he had no dog in the BS fight.
it was clear from having the hood up that the A/C wasn't there, and that's a pretty cut-and-dry issue. If the car came standard with A/C, it's got to be there.
I do know that Travis built that car from two separate 968s, so, I'm hoping it was just an oversight/misunderstanding of the rules.

Starting to sound like a laundry list protest, a post by the car owner describing the protested items: "A/C delete, ECU, Clutch and Flywheel, and they claimed the car came with a factory strut tower brace and that I removed it."
This is a far cry from the "it was obvious the AC was missing." I would guess he will not be able to come up with US spec documentation for the non-AC, but the good news is you can all protest him for the other stuff and take his car apart at the next event.
Hopefully he gets familiar with the the rule book, and his shop manual before the next event.

Hello everyone I am the Hill 968 driver in question. First off with the protest the things protested were A/C delete, strut bar, ECU, Cluth and Flywheel. The strut bar issue isn't one at all because 968's never came with one that I can prove. ECU I offered to take it out at the event because I know it is stock. Clutch and flywheel put up the money you will lose it as I installed it and will tear it out if you want no problem. A/C delete we are sending some documents in for the appeal whether its enough or not I don't know, and if its not the car will have the required A/C stuff installed for Toledo. The sheilds under the hood and the seats and other stuff I will let you know that 92, 93 cars are one way and 94,95 cars are another way but early 94's are the same as 93's so they came either way. most 94 and all 95 cars do not have the shields under the hood nor do they have the studs to mount them. How do I know? Well my brother owns a 93 and an early 94 I own a 94 and did own a 95 so I have seen all of them and that stuff could be proven. So I will be at Toledo and hopefully finish 2nd to Chris Harvey and that would be OK with me. Lastly I can't believe that in a mostly friendly club like the SCCA none of you guys had the stones to say one word to me about it. Had any of you said something I would have been cool with it because I know I drove good enough to win either way. I also think I left about .3 tenths out there on both sides with just my driving ability I know I should have been faster but I was satisfied anyway.
Thanks
Travis
Thanks
Travis

Travis,
Do understand no one bears you ill will. You are obviously determined to prove the legality of your car, which is understandable. My earlier comment about hoping you didn't show up at Toledo -- was aimed towards the current 'suspect' legality of your car.
Based on comments/input given by veterans who have known Porsches for as long as I've been on this Earth, it's looking quite apparent that all US 968's came from the factory with an A/C system. If you know otherwise or are aware of a trim level on which it was an option, perhaps you can elaborate...
One other question, was this car restored using parts from another 968? Was the parts car of the same or different model year?
Unless you yourself or a close relative bought that 968 new, restoring any 12+ year old car with an unknown history back to true "stock class" spec can be an expensive and daunting venture. If you're willing to do this, all the best!
We'll see you in Toledo.
