We'll see how it goes but either way I'll be legal at Toledo. The protest was not upheld because I was Illegal but because of documents just to set that straight. And the other car I got parts from was an original M030 968 with low miles and all stock except for the back half of it was crushed. I will take the blame for not getting the documents to see for my self before I removed the A/C but some knowledgeable porsche guys told me I could do it so when my compressor snapped of I deleted it which happened at the end of a local SCCA event.

The strut bar issue isn't one at all because 968's never came with one that I can prove. ECU I offered to take it out at the event because I know it is stock. Clutch and flywheel put up the money you will lose it as I installed it and will tear it out if you want no problem. A/C delete we are sending some documents in for the appeal whether its enough or not I don't know, and if its not the car will have the required A/C stuff installed for Toledo. The sheilds under the hood and the seats and other stuff I will let you know that 92, 93 cars are one way and 94,95 cars are another way but early 94's are the same as 93's so they came either way. most 94 and all 95 cars do not have the shields under the hood nor do they have the studs to mount them. How do I know? Well my brother owns a 93 and an early 94 I own a 94 and did own a 95 so I have seen all of them and that stuff could be proven. So I will be at Toledo and hopefully finish 2nd to Chris Harvey and that would be OK with me. Lastly I can't believe that in a mostly friendly club like the SCCA none of you guys had the stones to say one word to me about it. Had any of you said something I would have been cool with it because I know I drove good enough to win either way. I also think I left about .3 tenths out there on both sides with just my driving ability I know I should have been faster but I was satisfied anyway.

Thanks

Travis
Glad you could join us, hope you bring that thing to natls, sad that all the other P cars left.

I was not there and don't know how/what went down... However, having severed on a number of PC committees I will say imho it is no ones job to come to you. You need to bring a legal car, and the documentation required by the rules for your car. If you fail to do that and **** and moan about it (not saying you are doing that, just in the case of any protest) than that is just sour grapes. If everyone would show up with their $hit in order they would have nothing to get in a twist about. If people notice something with your car and save it for later that is what you get for not bringing a legal car. While that may sound like a dick thing to do, so is bringing a car that is not legal and putting your competitors in the position to be a dick.

While I would not consider any one member a subject matter expert on your car, I have no doubt that those people mentioned as being consulted would have a very good idea about it. All of them have run the car at the top level, and some even winning with it, I am sure if any of them could have lost weight on their 968 they would have.

Nothing against you, but I sure hope you don't have documentation for the non-AC... The ex-Hui/Kozlak car is now out here and I have driven it. Sure would hate it if the new owners got it to work like Stephen did, and then get to make it lighter.

I understand why you were DQ'd Travis - wasn't trying to paint it another way, but do understand that even on 968forums.com, I have yet to see a member who can point to a US model with absolutely no A/C hardware (someone did mention the 399 option which deleted the front condensor, but even then your car wouldn't match as the entire system was taken out).

Also, saying your seats were available on some early '94 models isn't enough - to run those seats everything else on the car must match that early '94 model. If that early model came with different sized wheels or a standard A/C system, it all must match up.

I understand what your saying and I hope to meet you someday. My intention was not to be illegal, but with a car like this everyone already thought it was illegal when it was build so it has a big bullseye on it from the start. Plus I have been upgrading for 4 years but other than this A/C protest I hope thats it because I want to race!

P.S I will come to Nationals and drive your car if you want.

I understand that but its a 94 model year they didnt have a 94 1/2 and the rules state configurations from within a particular model year. In that model year 94, 968's came either way. I have read the rules book before.

Travis,

Assuming you're correct on this point, can you show factory documentation that the '93 seats were used for part of the '94 model year? Understand it's very easy to check the legality of option packages on a car that's still manufactured (RX-8, 350Z, etc), but it's much harder on an out-of-production car that's 14+ years old. We're talking about used cars that more than likely have had multiple owners who could have modified the cars in many different ways to suit their tastes. Either way, proof of legality falls on you.

Hey everyone,

I just finished my 14hour drive and am back in front of a computer so I apologize if my response is a bit late. I'm getting caught up on the thread and everyone seems to be accurately recounting the event.

First off, to Travis.....I apologize for not approaching you initially about this. As indicated earlier, I was very torn about this one. On the one hand, there is no doubt you are one hell of a driver, in one hell of a car. On the other hand, I did not want to hold this in my back pocket until nationals. IMHO, that would have been the dick move. As soon as I did the research, I filed. I do not believe it was an intentional attempt to cheat, but most likely an oversight and it is my hopes that all of this is straightened out by Toledo. In hindsight, I probably should have come talk to you first. I know you wouldn't have been able to install A/C by Sunday to make it compliant, but I would imagine I would have given you a ride in my car.

This really is a friendly sport, and anyone who knows me or who talked to me that day can attest that I was not twisting my evil moustache trying to think of ways to win.

That being said, I want to also thank the rest of the class for being just an awesome group of guys. That really is what makes this sport what it is.

I will be in Toledo, but not driving my car....I simply can't afford to drive my car up there. (I'll be in DiSimo's MX-5) I really look forward to watching Travis and Chike battle it out though!

I am on AIM all day from work, anyone feel free to contact me (TractionCircle)

Quoted for humor!

Seriously, thanks Jay. My co-driver and I will ditch the 100 run V710's for some fresh rubber so hopefully, at least one of us will be able to run decently. Harvey and Rogers are both solid drivers as is Travis.

See you folks in 2 weeks.

OMG, 100 run tires? I'm glad I'm not running against you guys there. Seriously, that wasn't a stab...you turned some great raw times on Sat, really made all of us nervous. Then for Shawn to come back with those last minute flyers, it really made for some good tight competition. That is until Travis busted into the 29's on the right!!!!!

See you there!

Jay,

Now that I'm checking my notes, the tires had 104 runs. They had 76 runs going into the event, Shawn & I did 12 each, and then Shawn did 4 runs (2 rounds) in the super challenge.

I'm guesing the tires maybe held us back a 1/2 second per side...at the most. The real issue was not late apexing critical cones enough. Plus we didn't downshift in the slow 2 cone turn-around at the top of the course (after the slalom), but when Shawn did it in the Challenge Rounds it was much faster.

Our new V710's arrived Monday (day after the event was over ) so we're all set once more!

Btw, shoot me an e-mail to chiketkd 'at' yahoo 'dot' com. I'll send you our MaxQ data files. We're interested in comparing them to yours.

Many pics from BSP appear in the B-stock section. I also found none of Deady or Fossum.

When you posted, the upload wasn't complete. There were a bunch of weird things that happened between camera and uploading (naming, ordering and sequencing), and I don't know if Alex has it (or will have it) sorted.

Lots of pics, though.

Some other Team WTF?! taken pics at Flickr, too (that those of you that read smoe of the other usual forums may have already seen).

Chike, thanks for the find!

Clyde, sorry about not doing your parts justice, I just couldn't get the right side right.

Travis, you drove us into the ground, now get the car legal and give us another shot.

Jason, ya' did the right thing. Good luck in Toledo.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to wish everyone luck at Toledo....

My work decided at the last minute to deny my PTO request. Despite some pretty frantic attempts to get alternate flights, I ended up having to cancel the trip. I'm really pretty pissed off about it, and may possibly look into transferring to another dept, but that is another story altogether.

Looks like B-Stock will be one hell of a fight, between Travis, Chris, the Chike-mobile..... I'll buy the winner the first dance at BD's
