2011 Autocross
This past weekend I took my relatively new to me 2004 RX-8 to its first autocross. The map is below as is a link to a photo of my car. I don't have any of the event, unfortunately. But I hope to have some videos next time around. I drew on the map to show the route, and yes we did go through the middle 4 times with a different exit each time. Thankfully, I didn't DNF. I was happy that I kept getting better throughout the day and ended up cutting about 8 seconds off my first (admittedly conservative) lap to get a best time of 62.18. FYI, the FTD was 50 seconds in a turbo'd Honda CRX with R-comps, and the fastest car on street tires was an STU Subaru WRX that ran a 55.79.
Anyway, because the car had some mods when I bought it, I ran in an SP class since I didn't know much about the ST classes, but after reading the SCCA rules, I'm okay for STX. There weren't any STX cars there, but I think it would be a good fit, because my time was between some ST cars and STU cars. I have a lot to learn, and I had a great time. Any tips on autocrossing the RX-8 are welcome. It certainly reminds me a lot of my FC but with better grip and more power.

that's not too shabby honestly, 50 seconds isn't an uncommon time for FTD and assuming that turbo crx was in SMF 12 seconds back is nothing to be ashamed of, especially if its your first time out. That's an interesting course, more gymkhana style with the course overlapping itself.

Yeah, I'm happy with my time and enjoyed the day out with the RX-8. Btw, the 50 sec CRX was in SSM, and the three closest cars were around 53 sec (SMF - Honda Civic, BS - Honda S2000, BSP - Subaru STI).
